Seen any good mystery films lately? Short or feature? I haven't. Did I miss them? Seems like a thin field these days. Drama and thriller, not to mention SciFi, are dominating.

As a writer, Mystery is a great playground for story. Not the in-your-face antag with in-your-face motivation. Got to wait it out and let it unravel, with some clever red herrings.

I wish there were more 'who-done-it' stuff out there, especialy in the Indies.

Any recomendations?

I thought FAST FIVE was a pretty good mystery....

It was a mystery about why it made so much money:coolgleamA:

I don't know about that! I thought it was a pretty great flick with a perfect twist ending; stealing all that money from consumers to allow producers to retire to their dream life in a non-extradition country seems pretty wicked!

I saw Girl with a dragon tattoo a month or two ago and really liked it.

NAB?

I've seen quite a few recently but would have to think for a moment before I could remember them. Films today though very rarely tend to be single genre pieces though don't they. Off the top of my head I saw Farewell which was again actually more like a cold war espionage thriller...The Ghostwriter was pretty good mystery (but was a mystery thriller). OK i give up...

Thanks for the tips on what's out there. Gonna hunt them down.

Yeah, genre's a funny thing. I remember the days SciFi was relegated to B-movie status, and rightfully so considering the 'FX' and costume. Then Star Wars came along and changed the game. Maybe we'll be staurated with it someday.

I'd sure like to see Mystery make a resugence, albeit grown up. Agree TV has pretty much melted the genre down, but one could say the same thing for Westerns and SciFi back in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Not that Westerns have had any kind of Renaissance. I suppose a few jewels here and there is enough for me.

Oh, and to go off topic here, if you've never heard of Sinead Lohan, a musical artist out of Ireland, then treat yourself to this tune ...

... And her excellent rendition of Dylan's To Romona. I believe the opening comment calls it superlative.

+1 on "The Secret In Their Eyes"

also The Double Hour (La doppia ora) an Italian mystery just opened at the local art house. Very good and well shot.

No American made films though...
