I'd really like to stay away from the Birger thread and all that drama and just ask if anyone can tell me where things stand with respect to being able to use Canon EF lenses on the Epic X? All I really need is iris control. Will this be something that is possible from day one on the first batch of Epic X's?

thanks!

Alesniak "disappeared" long time ago from here...but who knows(?)...we are behind the curtain...

I guess even worst case scenario I could get a dumb Nikon mount and use older Nikon glass with manual iris rings. Is Red definitely planning dummy Nikon and Canon mounts?

I suppose another option might be to go with a Canon dummy mount on the Epic X, then use a 16-9.net Nikon G>EOS adapter to control newer G-series Nikon glass like the 14-24G and the 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II?

Yeah, it'd be crucial for the Nikon & Canon mounts for Epic and Scarlet to have iris control. The recent approval by RED of OptiTek's Pro Nikon mount (with iris control) bodes well for Epic & Scarlet mounts in the near future. The question is how soon after release. Hopefully, the 30th will bring more answers on this front.

That does sound good. Jarred, if you're reading this, can you tell us if this will be available from day one on Epic X, or is something that gets rolled out months later?

Will a dummy Nikon or Canon mount be available from day of Epic X?

thanks!

F#ck it... here we go......5,000K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happened? EpicX? Scarlet?...

I'm telling you. . . we had better have a remotely-controlled focus Birger or Birger-ish mount for Canon available when X arrives. I'm really counting on that. I do NOT want to have to switch lenses again!

umm, I got the impression that this wasn't going to happen for any third party lenses, at least a mount made by RED.

Didn't Jim say he thought it wasn't right and possibly unethical for them to make lens interfaces to Canon/Nikon mounts?

I would hope that a nikon mount meant I could use AF and Iris control, but I doubt that will actually happen.

There was a question whether or not the electronic mounts are proprietary. Surprisingly, it seems not.

Thanks, Sanjin!

Thanks, Jim, that's good news.

I hope on Oct 30 you guys can give us some solid info about the various mount options and when they will be available. Planning out glass takes time.

Wait, 5000K = 5,000,000 :nads::emote_hippie:

Heh. Funny... these days I am so used to putting a "K" on everything... 4K, 2K, 5K, 5.6K RAW, and even money, 50K for a camera, budget of _K, etc. It's K this and K that everywhere we look. :biggrin5:

That's good news. I was hoping for a Nikon/Canon mount for the Epic-X right out of the gate. I know it hasn't been said yet but it seems like there's a strong chance of it happening. I wouldn't mind getting a Canon mount and just using my Nikon to EOS adaptor for all my glass. I just don't want my 24mm 1.4L lens to be limited to my 5D2.
