  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Where did Sanjin go?

I don't mean to interrupt the love in, but when I think about the number of accomplished cinematographers he ran out of here with his aggressiveness (I believe there were several) I think I would prefer to have all or any of them back rather than one of him. The quality of the info would be better and so would the mood.

Cost:benefit to the larger community may not balance out. That may have been why he was banned in the first place, no?

What DP's did he run off? Pretty sure the entire community helped if they left or at least a lot.... People here can be a little too diehard RED (which can be good, but you have to be open minded as well).

I wish I could remember who the last one was who said "I'm leaving and never coming back." after sparring with him. I do remember seeing it more than once. Out of fairness to Sanjin I should try and remember, but naming names could also be indelicate. Ultimately it is a matter of memory and not consideration though. Sorry.

Partly agreed...

And not comparing to anyone, he had me take a year off being here...



But then I changed my mind, after running around with the RED for a year.
Because, I learned - by meeting others, that "his" way of using the camera was actually how very many use it.

And then it started to be quite informative for me.
Not his conclusions or Leica Love or bashing, but his approach was indeed very much of a learning experience, because "his" way represents a huge userbase.

It's like the guys asking for a look file to use to get a particular look, and don't understand that the look file offsets their lighting and exposure in a way that may make that "look" rather unuseable.

And all his HDR ideas.

I like to follow that sort of thinking. now. even though I don't agree, I tend to think it is interesting to see...

Claudio Miranda was a very unfortunate case, as has been Geoff Boyle and Roger Deakins...

I wish he would stop doing that. if he's unbanned... :)

No worries, I just know outside of REDuser, this site has a negative connotation and is known as being die hard confrontational. So despite Sanjin, most DP's stay away from this site anyways. I'm sure if it was a more subjective site more DP's would enter into conversations here without worry of attack.

Was that Sanjin, or Reduser in general?

So do you think Sanjin added to or counteracted that image? Some might say he is largely responsible for it.

If he came back, do you suppose folks are less likely to be attacked or more likely?

Yup

And THAT is plain silly about this place.

Sure...
Jim, Jarred and Graeme have their missions.

But for the rest of us to attack people with merit far wider than our own...
We should have a pretty good reason and foundation to do that, and confrotations/attack is rarely the best way to get in dialogue...

I like Geoff...
And I have come to like San.

I can take a bit of heat from both and they can both be pretty rude... :)

I happen to think that Geoffs methodology is more valid than Sanjins, even though we don't agree on all thing imagingvise.
But that is part of the fun.
Geoff has been kind enough to embrace a couple of the things I've tested.
I have no issues in seeing his valid points.

Good stuff all over.

As to Sanjin, it is the general misconseptions which I have learned to understand, which are the fun things.

It IS a problem when he takes that out on people of respect who approach this site.

( I know, looking at my profile pic is kinda an oxymoron!!!!) but seriously, we should all not get so butt hurt just because someone is outspoken... who cares, thats what a FORUM is all about!! If we all had to agree with each other here it would be REALLY BORING, NO?? ;):emote_popcorn:

Agree to an extent. And San was in many ways just over zeilous in defending REDs rep...


Some of what he comes with is cool.
Other stuff is unfortunately silly.

Still would LOVE to grab a beer with him and see him back here...
 
If he wants to come back he is the one who should do something, not the community, not the admins.

It doesn't work that way...When you are banned you can't do anything on Reduser until it is unlocked. So there is nothing he can do...
 
No let's not be boring or terribly sensitive but let's face it; creatives are sensitive. We need to have a civil discourse... with an occasional kick in the ass.

He did make the boards very memorable. He was one of the reasons I got into Reduser. Made it seem like a fun, rough and tumble place where everyone could agree to disagree.
