Where can I find a Turn Table?

[Jeremy Wiles]

I need an electric turn-table for product shots. Does anyone know where to find one of these or what studios are using in the business? It would be great to have one that could handle the weight of a person, but I don't want to spend big bucks on it.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I had one custom built to handle 1000 Lb. stoves. PM me if you're interested in renting it.

For small product shots -> an old record player, put a dimmer on the motor, voilà!

Here is the most unexpensive setup I've seen sofar...

I haven't had time to build one myself yet, but I would love to hear how it works out for you if you build it..

If found out that for a motor control Mel Bartels (astronomy/telescope guy) have built some pretty unexpensive systems for just that purpose. I don't know what motors are best for the purpose, but search for Mel, and contact him, and Im sure he knows exactly what you'll need!

Best of luck!

I purchased my product shot turntable from this place. www.usaturntable.com
I use the Show Pro Precision turntable, but they have larger ones for people or cars and such.

Good Luck!

you can use the SKATER Mini Dolly from P+S TECHNIK
it will be useful

It's hard to get repeatable moves without motion control, but most of my clients are so cheap they don't want to pop for it.
I use my mini-skater as well as my Trovato jib along with the turntable. Sometimes a speed ramp on the move adds a bit of excitement to the shot.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I definitely like the DIY ideas, but probably need to go with something a bit more industrial. The mars/astronomy motor that Peter suggest would probably work as well. BTW, I've been using an astonomy motor for capturing motion tracking time lapse shots, which produces amazing results.

The IG-4 indoor rotator from usaturntable.com ($460) is probably the best option, which future proofs any larger products I'll be filming.

I have used this one

it´s really good, smooth, strong and can have different plate sizes.
its about 1500 € about 1900$.

Any idea on the price of the Skater Turntable? Couldn't find anything on their site.
