  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

When your scarlet is off, how long does your redvolt lasts?

It has been said that there is no power management in the firmware yet. So, I would expect the REDvolts to last the same whether the camera is shooting or whether it is just sitting there - assuming it is ON. Up to now, most people say that is about 30-35 minutes. Are you saying you had the Scarlet powered down off much of the time and it still seemed like the batteries were draining?I ask specifically because it SEEMED (!) that my REDvolts drained while they were sitting in the quad power module even though it wasn't connected to the camera. It got me to wondering if the batteries will drain simply because the battery contacts are touching a metal surface. Is that a crazy idea?

Yes, last night I placed a fully charged volt and shut down the cam, in the am the batt was dead. So I was left with 3,shot 5 minutes the batt died total running time 10 minutes. Then I started taking the batt out everytime, i went to shut down. Is the cam draing the batt or am MY redvolts are dead

Scarlet is a vampire... a battery vampire. I was really disappointed to discover in current firmware builds I couldn't just leave a battery in the cam ready to pop it on and shoot at a moment's notice. I can't tell you exatly how long a RV lasts though just sitting in the cam as I haven't measured it. But it's less than a day in my experience.

Yes the batteries do drain if left attached to the camera, this is not unique to the Scarlet/Epic, I had a Sony PMW-EX1 for several years that would drain attached batteries within 24 hours when switched off. What I would be interested in knowing is what kind of internal clock/setting battery or capacitor the Scarlet has and how long it retains its charge...

I tested this exact situation recently on my Scarlet and the Redvolts lost an average of 1% of their charge per hour the battery was sitting in the camera, with the camera turned off.

with every firmware update it gets a little better.
