  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

When will we be able to use Redgamma 2 and Redcolour 2?

Thanks again David

David,

Is there any chance that Color Correction done in REDCine X could be saved in a file for import into Adobe Premiere CS5?

Jay

Adobe can read the .RMD file from Redcine-X. You can make changes in Redcine-X and then "reload from RMD" in Adobe to see the changes.

Yes but I don't think premiere can interpret a RedColor2/Gamma 2 yet from this. Am I wrong?

Unfortunately the color science is not in the rmd file. I just tested this in AE CS5 by setting the color/gamma space in RedCineX then reloading the RMD file in AE. If I specify REC709, RedSpace, or RC/RG it loads as expected in AE. Specifying RC2/RG2 or RC2/RedLogFilm, AE interprets the color space as RC/RG. We'll need either Red to make a plugin or Adobe to update their import filter.

There is an adobe feature request url here. I have just submitted one for "Production Premium". If you're reading this, please do it too so they get the hint. Also could you request adding AAF import back into AE? They took it out of CS5 thinking no one uses it.

@Jay you can grade in RedCineX with the new color science and then export this as prores, DNxHD, DPX or Open EXR. These can then be imported and further grading can be applied as desired.

Hoping for news, not to rush, but to plan workflow for a current project.

until that update is ready, you may want to do a one-light in rcx and export to 16bit tifs, or exr or whatever...

yeah, that's what I've been doing for some shots - too tight a deadline to do them all that way though, at least not at first - plus if you export an EDL from PPro, and it has subclips in it, it will be useless - you have to write down the timecodes by hand :cursing:

I'm also hard waiting on the SDK update on the CS5.... so I tried to go the route via DPX but ending up with conforming problems.....
Trying both ways from Final Cut and AVID I'm ending up with different problems...
first how to get proper the timeline into after effects and conforming it with the DPX files...
exporting a XML v4 from FCP and conforming it with clipfinder to the R3Ds works, importing it with the PI_FCP2AE plugin then ends up with a conformed composition on R3Ds...
Can I now relink this to DPX files ????
Do you know a working plugin for bringing EDLs into AE and conforming it with DPX???
I know automatic duck would make this all easier, but before I buy this software I want to try different ways....
Any input would be great....
thx
