When I boot up sometimes the screen is black but the fans are running

Anyone else have this issue: I boot up and then camera sounds like it starting, but the screen is black. The only way to fix it is to turn it off and turn on again, then it works.

Yep. It's been happening since the release build that supposedly "fixed" booting-up to a rainbow pattern. I'm also on DSMC1 (MX).

Just in case it helps, I sometimes have black screen on bootup, but more usually half black half white. Reseating LCD cable fixes it in my case.

Yeah same,just annoying as hell for me as it's usually in an undwerwarrr housing... would love to find a permanent fix to this

Yes I have had this problem for some time now. Both methods fix it for me -- re-seating the cable or simply re-starting. Epic MX.

Did you try pulling the monitor cable out and them put it in again when it is on? That helped me always.

That didnt work fotr me Jaimy. To mee the camera behaves as if its crashed. For example if I press record, nothing happens.

I didn't mean to imply that pulling the cable was a legitimate fix. This is a real problem and it seems to have crept in with one of the releases.

Just an update. So the camera actually works 100%. We get a screen on our hd-sdi, its just the main screen that doesnt get an image.

I've seen this on many REDs, from MX to Dragon to Helium, both on privately owned ones and ones from rental houses. Re-seating or restarting fixes it. Bit of a pain sometimes.

Guys, just an update on this. I brought my LCD into RED for repair and they confirmed there is a problem. Unfortunately they claim they can no longer get the parts needed to repair the monitor, so the monitor cannot be repaired. That's pretty crappy for a 3.5 year old monitor at this price point. I'll continue to use it in the degraded mode it is in. I am pretty sure that it was a firmware upgrade that initially caused this issue, which makes RED's handling of this even less attractive.
