When / How do you Sync Audio?

We are in the process of evaluating CatDV as our MAM and we have a decent ingest workflow that brings the RED files into CatDV, moves them to our network storage and generates proxies. The question I have is with regards to syncing audio.

We shoot a lot of different formats, from interviews to landscape broll and everything in-between. We (normally) use an external microphone.

How do you guys handle audio? Do you ingest into your MAM of choice, link the audio and have the editor handle the audio when editing or do you sync audio before you ingest so the mezzanine formats have the audio?

What program(s) do you use to sync audio? Do you use Resolve or REDCine?

I would sync in the software you plan to use for the final edit. Anything you do in dailies is just temporary (but there's nothing wrong with seeing and hearing temp color/scratch pic for dailies).

The advantage of syncing sound in the final edit is that then the sound file/roll numbers and metadata should "in theory" translate over to Pro Tools or whatever the sound editor & mixer use for the final mix. Here's a good article on the subject:
