so i have a project shot 4k not 4k HD (16x9) what is the correct aspect ratio so i can have my video come out without a letter box when played on vimeo.

its looking like 1920x1015 to me but we'll see once its exported.

hmm i was just exporting from premiere cs6 everytime it would export with a letter box so i just wanted to type in the aspect ratio.

is there any benefit to going through encoder?

4K downscaled to 1080p should be exactly that, 1920x1080 - 4K resolution is 4096x2304. 4096/2304 = 1.778, the same as 1920/1080. So if you shot 4K, it is still 16x9, unless you shot 4k 2:1.
What size timeline did you edit in?
