  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

When do you think that Nikon RED will finally announce the cameras with expeed and new sensors?

Hey fgonz,
Great to see actual humans coming back to the newly reopened RU. The board is currently battling bot gentrification.

A Nikkor cinema lens set was recently teased and the Komodo 6K OG seems to be recently discontinued.

With Cinegear coming up there may be some announcements at that event.

If I could imagine 2 potential new cameras it could be a replacement ZMount Komodo 6k
and perhaps a 65mm class RED at the higher end.

It’s interesting that for over 10 years RED has capped their high end sensors at 8K Vista Vision but I wouldn’t be surprised if they a finally focusing on something bigger.

Would be interesting if Expeed processors might be included. I honestly think that might be further down the line but who knows.

The industry world is in a very precarious situation (war, energy shortage) and I’m trying to be discreet with just how bad things can get if they don’t improve very very soon.

Camera releases and products in general might slow down a bit.

Would be happy though if the existing lineup (including Komodo OG) can still get meaningful firmware updates for the time being.

Also wonder if Graeme Nattress at RED might have something new with Redcode debayering improvements.

Hello Felipe,
we actually met on this board a couple of years ago back around the Nikon/RED acquisition. Great to chat with you again.

Really enjoyed reading your take, Brian. I’m pretty much on the same page. It feels like the Nikon and RED Digital Cinema integration is going to be more of a slow burn rather than something we’ll suddenly see fully realized at the next event.

Cinegear could definitely bring some kind of hint or teaser, especially with the Komodo OG fading out. A Z-mount Komodo replacement sounds very realistic to me, and honestly would make a lot of sense for people already invested in Nikon glass. The 65mm idea is exciting too—would be cool to see them finally push beyond that 8K Vista Vision ceiling.

That said, I kind of feel like the first steps might be more “under the hood” stuff—processing, color science, maybe improvements to REDCODE—before we get a full-on Nikon-RED camera. Either way, it feels like we’re in that quiet phase where things are being set up behind the scenes. Curious to see what actually shows up in
