  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So... let's kill a bit of time with some guesswork of price/specs for the Epic-L
I'm pretty sure that Jim will give the closest guess an Epic-M :tongue_smilie:

Here goes:

s35 MX
5K 1-48 fps
3k 1-120 fps
HDRx™™
HDRe
Side SSD

Made in USA

Price (brain) - $14,000

5k 30fps. $12,000 basic kit with ssd module and 2.5"LCD. Other specs as yours. Batteries and storage extra.

Seems to me this undercuts F3 slightly and not much more than similar config scarlet S35 with the $1000 HDRx™ bump. Maybe a discount package with 17-50 zoom.

If it were me I would add a 3.5kish 4/3 crop mode as well. Get that alexa predebayered spec and take on the AF100 as well. Both specs sort of arbitrary/meaningless in reality but good for head to head sales/marketing purposes.

If could make a 4/3 mount would help grab some of those Gh1/GH2 folks.

Did Jim change the name again? Are we referring to the Epic Light, which was later changed to Epic-S?

Epic S, M, L, X, XL, XXL, XXXL,...names and specs are still in a tailoring process...

Brain starts from $12K for Epic S to Epic XL $28K although M package already costs $58K or even Ti-M $78K.

All is a pure speculation anyway...

Name not really written on Stone Tablet yet. Refered to as Light..Lite..L
Standard..and S are all the cheaper Epic.

If original price was 7K at 30FPS
+2K HDRx
+2k parts inflation
+2k labor + misc. expense = 13k

or 16k if higher FPS than 30 enabled

That is to say Scarlet S35 with added features. Features good enough to bump it up into the Epic series. My guess is based on Jim Retar's specs.

Other than HDRx and eHDR -- both of which we already knew about and were slated for Scarlet S35 -- it's unknown outside Red what, if any, new features (including frame and data rates) Epic-L (S, Light, etc.) has.

I don't think this will happen, but may the gods on Olympus hear you and make this happen.

12K for a basic shooting package is the most I can possibly pay.

Realistically I expect 14K for the brain only also.

I expect it to be a direct contender to the Sony F3. So around $14k body only and around $18-20k with a package (which, I think, won't include lenses).

I also hope some kind of surprise like "hey, the 2/3 Scarlet is now an FF16 Scarlet"...

First of all, who in the world would spend $14K on a sensor and settle with a 2,8" LCD-screen? Second of all, even though there seems to be consensus over the 12-14K price, this will eventually mean 60-100% price increase, which is extreme. Of course that's what happended to the Fixed Scarlet so why not? Shirley I hope this won't happen, but it probably will.
