Hi all,

Tell me what you think about iSee4K, my free iPhone app.
I built the app to be useful for the RED community, if it's not let, me know and I'll improve it.

iSee4K is very popular on iTunes (top 50 photography apps) so I'm puzzled by the 2 star rating. It gets a lot of 1 star ratings, and almost as many 5 star ratings.
What's going on?

Are the bad star ratings from real RED camera users, or are they from random people installing the app, not knowing what it is for and then giving it a bad rating?

Send me your feedback!

Thanks,
Ed.

The solution is simple and eupeptic; stop giving it away!

I suggest a charge more in line with the value, which is considerable, or at least $5.00; that will put a stop to downloads by the ignorant.

Best regards,

Leo

I agree with Leo. I think your low ratings are probably coming from kids who think their iPhone will shoot 4k if they download your app. :-)

You should charge for it.

It's perfect... Don't worry about the low star. They simply doesn't understand the purpose of your great app.

Yeah I would switch to at least 99 cents, that will get rid of 99% of the rif raff reviewers who will download anything for free. It does exactly what it says it does- so a bad review is probably from someone who doesn't quite understand what it's for.

Thanks for all your feedback guys.

I don't mind the low ratings so long as it's not from the people who actually use the app, since it is not, I'll keep it free and ignore the 1 stars.

Any feature requests, let me know and I'll work them in. I'll bring back lens2lens when I have made a few changes to it.

Also, I'm currently working on a shot logging iphone app, just working out the kinks in emailing and offloading the logs. I'll keep people in the loop, but it'll be a while before it's ready.

I agree with Leo. My son asked the other day if I had any Red specific apps on my iphone. I showed him ISee4K and after a minute he said "OK", as in "OK, I have NO concept of what I'm looking at" and handed me back my phone. It IS very Red specific, a good thing and baffling to those outside the fold. Five stars in my book!

The newest version of the iPhone OS asks you to give a star rating when you delete an app. This is a strange choice, because you would typically not be deleting something you like, would you? Perhaps this is an Apple ploy to decrease the ratings of free apps.

In the case of iSee4K, I suspect many of the people who download it have never heard of a Red camera and after realizing that the app does nothing for them they delete it and give low stars.

I certainly use it on all my Red jobs.

I agree that it's probably the people thinking it's a regular depth of field app. I noticed several of the reviews even talked about it's DoF capabilities.

On a side note, if you notice, everyone that actually gave it a review rated it high minus one 3-star review.

Not that I mind getting this app for free, but a small price would get rid of all those casual folks that download every free app on the planet and give it bad ratings. It's definitely worth a few bucks. (it's actually worth more than a few bucks)

Thanks for doing this, very handy.

Well I donated money towards it because I highly appreciate it as a tool on set! So maybe a better metric is how many people donated even though it's free?!

Five stars from me!

Paul
