Of late there are all too many threads using titles in all caps.

Please don't.

It is the internet equivalent of screming, and my eyes are hurtin'

Good use of language is much better than screaming. Oh, and there really isn't any need for *****stars!!!In!theTitle****** either.

Thanks for listening.

I don't consider all caps screaming when used in a TITLE. And I don't think most people do either. We are rather USED to caps in titles. Wouldn't you agree? Now in the text of a post I must say I HATE to see all caps!!!
Nevertheless, if you prefer we not use them in the titles, then I for one, and I think most everyone else, would be happy to comply.
I AM guilty of doing so in the past. I was unaware of such a forum rule and should have read them more carefully. I apologize.

Cats would never use caps.

In that manner.

To luddites, wrinklies, dinosaurs, oldschoolers like me, or whatever is the latest young generation definition of my ilk, habits like tidy presentation in a document do not go quietly in the night. They succumb unwillingly, twisting, kicking and screaming, injuring their claws as they are dragged across the carpet out of the room.

The modern usage of lower case is as much born out of the early iterations of personal computer users and programmers as it may be a goodmanners thing. It is a niche culture which became trendy. Nowadays there are far fewer of us doing the programming and software writing. Using lowercase may be as much about a developed subculture of unthoroughness and expediency as it is about perceived squalling in someone's face on a monitor screen.

I do concede that all caps in all of the body of a thread post is an over-emphasis and is a discourtesy, the same unthoroughness and expediency at play. The intended reader is being disrespected by being sent inferior presentation as if that person is not worth the investment of the small extra time and effort required by the writer.

As people are discovering in these straitened economic times, presentation and tidyness are making a comeback as competition for fewer jobs ramps up. Genuine indispensable raggedy genius will still hang on, so long as it represents value for money beavering away in the basement, not the storefront of the enterprise.

I was told at school that I was too inclined to march to the beat of my own drum and that no good would come of it. Conformity for conformity' sake does stultify innovation and needs a challenge every now and again. If we did not have movers and shakers we would at best be animating strings of paintings on a cave wall by running by with our heads turned, our eyes flickering as shutters. We would be hopefully not so entranced that we slam into the rockface at the deep end or fly out over the steep talus below the entrance to tumble, slithering and skinning ourselves in the sharp loose stones until we are brought up short and to our senses by the final plunge into the cold winter stream at its foot.

Lessons of history often have founded conformity. Sometimes they are best not relearned.

On reflection, this statement is perhaps a little savage, as subtle even as a flask of gasolene cast upon a fire with the apprehended purpose of putting it out. Nevertheless, let's see what furthur comes out of the debate.
