  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What's the No.1 missing piece in the RED post software puzzle?

Hey Nigel.
How about adding some presets in Scale, plus a "16/9 SD" option.
For the icons showing the diferent Fit methods, would be nice to have the selected one being highlighted with a blue box around it.
( I did a reder today with the wrong fit option. By a quick glance, the Fit Width kind of looks to be selected due to the black letterbox, making it stand out a bit from the other two around it)

Oh, why not make a "on set backup" button on the start page.
A tool that would enable you to:
Copy a CF-card (to X amount of conected drives)
verify it (by creating checksums)
after the backup is complete, start a predefine QT-render for offline.
And during the copy/verify create a Log-file saying that everything is OK or not, and store that inside the target-folder

For the destination... would be good to have a FTP-client built in so it can FTP the files to a LTO3a.

Oh, one cool thing.
Being able on set to transcode to fairly small h264 QT's and publish them on a simple website.
That way, as soon as the backup/transcode has been done. All clients (like agensy) on the shoot can log in and see the takes using their Laptops.
Oh... even cooler. Having that site also working for Iphones. Kind of like th eyoutube app. That way a client could use his Iphone to look at the takes. Now that would be a impressive gadget!

Hey guys... what is a project need to use both edgecode and Time of day?
Lets say we're shooting onspeed 25fps for most stuff. For that we use ToD-TC.
But is some stuff was shot in offspeed (50fps maybe) and that uses Edgecode... hwo do we deal with that?

is it still so, that when using edgecode, each mag/CF starts with 1hrs. Or is it fixed now so mag/CF number 2 is 2hrs, 3 is 3hrs... or even using half-hours as in film. Er even 15min, or 10min. since the CF's are so small.

Did anyone come across that problem/solutio?

Oh, Nigel:

I read that creating MXF's is a license thing from Avid... could you license that and build it in to Monkey, or are you forced to use the RedLine/RedAlert functions?

That's not something that's on the horizon at the moment. My understanding is that the import of DNxHD quicktimes is pretty quick?

yeh, but native MXF import is faster :)

Does Monkey do any ALE-exports? Or is that lest to MetaCheat or Redalert?
By the way... what is on the horizon in monkey-land?
