Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
We just spent 3, 24 hour days transcodeing material from a 3 day shoot on an 8 core at half/high debayer (3 hours of interviews and a fair amount of b-roll, less than 1 tb). I'd love to find a faster way to do this. Maybe we are missing something on the set-up.
I'm considering a Scratch Cine system if a large project we are negotiating on comes in. But I hate to spend that kind of money with busy fingers all over the world trying to find a cheaper way to crack this nut.
I'm transcoding 1.2 TB of info at the moment. I'm only going to SD for editing and it's about 2.5:1 in RedRushes so an hour of material takes around 2.5 hours to transcode. This is on a 4-core Mac Pro.
About the fastest way I've found for DVD, but not much use for 1080.
Have you looked at the difference between Half High and Half Standard for your material? Depending on the source footage, the difference might not be noticeable and you'll greatly speed up your render times.
However, if Half High is absolutely necessary, then nope, you're probably getting the best performance from your 8-core.
Redline is a command-line tool that allows you to transcode R3Ds. If you have multiple machines, you may be able to spread the work using RedLine and Q-master. If it's just the one machine, check the 'Settings' Menu in RedRushes, and see how far you can max your computer out - 1 clip with all 8 cores going at once.
