Whats the best screen capture software?

For making video tutorials on anything computer related or software related.

I want to make tutorials for people, with an audio narration. I want one that can ZOOM into specific parts of the screen to make it easier to read when I click on something. This is a really handy featue I need because it helps peopel see what your clicking on when your watching a small res video.

It seems to work well for other people and its a feature I enjoy when I'm watching software tutorials.


If someone knows of a good software that will help, me please let me know, especialy if its free or cheap.

I've tried a lot of them and Fraps is the only one that doesn't crash and I have never lost any footage during capture. I used to do a lot of screen captures and in fact it helped me grab all the footage for a 22 minute short film from a computer game I was working on. It's awesome.

Oh k, I have fraps but I thought it only captures when a game is open.??

Camtasia ($300) is the hands down standard on the PC side but its fairly expensive. Screenflow is hands down the winner on the Mac side.
