  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Not worried about budget at this stage, just looking for your favourite working options. Teradek users, are you finding their products okay?

I will be using the Epic on steadicam too and my assistant likes to sit down whenever he can :)

Any help greatly appreciated!

David

Thanks J.P. The Cam Wave HD does look good. Do you know how it would attach to the Epic. I have the RED backpack & Quickplate on order and not sure how this might fit.

Hi,
First off, change your assistant ! :-)
For steadicam, the cube's latency (1/8 to 1/2 sec) is the biggest problem. For your assistant to pull focus at the other end (monitor hooked to the receiver) is just a bad idea because he will always be late . As soon as the TERADEK offers zero latency, I'm all in.
The cheapest solution I have been using all summer on my steadicam is the ASUS WICAST (discontinued but you can find some on ebay) . HD streamed with zero latency and a range of about 50' in line of sight (about half when Tx and Rx don't "see" each other).
It's an HDMI sender so I used it with the DECIMATOR 2 from HDSDI output. ASUS :150$ , decimator: 450$. The pictures show the ALEXA but I have had same results with the EPIC. I still have to test the HDMI output on the EPIC and I would get rid of the DECIMATOR...
It looks "fugly" on the sled but beside the extra range that the BOXX , TITAN HD or other 5000$+ HD transmitter offer, the image is EXACTLY the same quality as those ultra expensive Tx. This solution is good for 90% of the shots I achieve. The other 10%, I would record the shot without transmitting and playback afterwards at the video village.
Cheers, fly safe

Frederic, That's so cool.... and soooo cheap. It certainly gives me more to think about! How do you power the Asus?

See first picture, I had a "Y" cable made by http://www.crampedattic.com .
It sends 5v to the DECIMATOR and ASUS at the same time from my sled (12v to 5v converter in the small box velcroed to the decimator)

It has a female battery plate on one side and a male on the other. That way it sandwiches in-between the camera and the battery plate (given you are using v-mount or AB-mount batteries)

I have heard of people using the Wicast and other HDMI transmitters, but never heard anything conclusive about their viability. That is awesome that you are making it work, I may need to look into that.

A little throwback.

I was trying to convince Zinwell, the makers of the Brite-view to create an affordable motion picture specific product for us to use so I put together this "demo"

They didn't bite.

So I created my own company Called Wi-Mon. Then I changed the name to Paralinx.

It's not as cheap as the DIY solution, but it will be much more pro.
