  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Whats my best approace to this workflow.

What's my best approach to this work flow? [typo]

Feature length film.
Receiving hard drive today.

Objective= To Apply a general color grade with good color balance and tone to all footage and retain the highest quality possible for a compositor to work with the footage in After Effects. Preferably 4K something like ProRes422 (HQ)

My computer.
Octo 2.8 new style Mac Pro
OS 10.5.1
5Gigs Ram
graphics card ATI Radeon HD 2600

QT 7.4
FCP 6.0.2

REDCine 1.0
REDAlert 1.4.7

I want to turn my REDCODE 4K raw into ProRes 422 (HQ) or ProRes 422

How can i do this properly and efficiently?

I am thinking i grade it in RedCine clip by clip and export the footage.
Is this the best route?

What are some of you guys using and doing.

Thanks

Luis.

go back to QT 7.3 there are problems with QT 7.4

I have heard that before.
How do i go back to 7.3

thanks for the heads up.

Some experience here.

1. RAM
Use matched pairs of preferably similar RAM in your RAM slots, and at least 1 gb pr core. (Which is: at least 8gb RAM)

2. (if you have a god backup solution)
Install 3 750 GB disks as a media RAID to work from for transcoding.

NB: Only do this if you have your original media on an external disk/RAID and copy the resulting files to a safe place + backup.

You are of course better off with an external SATA RAID 5 solution all together, but from your post, that doesn't sound like a viable option.

NB

These are advices on the cheap :)

But they DO speed up the workflow dramatically.
