I'm start to find out that by migrating to Snow Leopard and QuickTime X would run into some hiccups, like MPEG2 file won't play.

So, I wanted to start sharing the findings here on this thread.

MPEG2 plugin for QT7 does not work on Snow Leopard nor QTX won't play MPEG2.

I was trying to verify rendered MPEG2 from Compressor on Snow Leopard but QTX nor QT7 won't playback telling me missing the component. I also tried the MPEG Streamclip but it tells me mpeg component is required. The cause seems to be because QTX nor QT7 running on Snow Leopard is lacking Pro function. It won't be useful to try to install Pro upgrade because there's nowhere you can upgrade to (QT7 in the system preference won't show up to install the key).

Solutions:
I found VLC for 64-bit version and drag in the m2v file played it nicely.

QuickTime 7 MPEG2 playback plug-in can be installed again to QuickTime 7 on Snow Leopard (this could be purchased installer or the installer you can find in FCS2 installation disk, thanks Jamon for the info.). Also you can scavenge the plug-in from your old system or the backup. The process is explained here (thanks Neil for finding this information).

"The Snow Leopard upgrade DVD released on August 28 may wipe the content of the /System/Library/QuickTime folder during the upgrade process,

and delete your MPEG-2 Playback Component installed in that folder. To use MPEG-2 files with MPEG Streamclip you have to reinstall the MPEG-2 component

(from FCP3 DVD>>.../Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg) or restore it from a backup copy. "
