  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

whats going on with the Red Projector?

If I had to guess I would guess that RED is using HDI's tech in their projector.

RED has historically sourced their parts from local california companies so it would make sense to have their projector also designed by a California company.

I think HDI went bust though... so that might explain why RED's projector dev stalled out.

So no speckle, who told us speckle was the issue?

You know I can get potatoes out of my backyard, bit it is no way to run a leading international company. As needed, you need to source leading parts from further afield.

If it was the company going bust, maybe they could have done a buy out, but I doubt they wanted to commit that much time and money. In any case, if they have the right agreements in place the projector should still come without HDI still going, if it was them.

I did talk to a guy that was saying that an issue one company could not overcome was if the screen got damaged and direct laser light got out.

Got out behind the projection screen?

I'd just block off that area and have some kind of safety interlock switch that would shut the projector of if anybody forced their way back there. There are more dangerous industrial machines than this out there that can hurt people. Hell, a buzz saw can cut your hand off if you're careless, and they sell those every day.

It was a rear projected TV product, think Nintendo Wii controller, knife, chair through the screen, or even damaging it leading to a concentration somewhere in from of the screen. But you are right, a sensing mechanism could catch damage from a rear image, but sometimes significant damage might not be obvious and concentrate light, but that is life, things can't be completely practically avoided it designed around, and meteorites don't respect your cautiousness when they hit. So, it cones down to minimising to very little risk, like seatbelts and air bags in cars, and traffic lights, will not completely eliminate chances of being injured or dying but we use them.
