Hello,

I havent beet in the forum for a while and I am a little confused on the names and products Red is planning to build.

As i´ve seen there will be a scarlet fixed 2/3", a Epic S (former scarlet) with s35 sensor and an Epic X,

And there is some kind of prototype beta Epic M around?!

Whats the difference between the Epic S and X?

What happened to the rest of the planned brains and versions? Am I missing something?

Is there kind of an overview available like there was a year ago?

Thanks,

Robert

Epic-M: Hand built machined body limited production Epic in production now, essentially this is the replacement for the Tattoo cameras being sold at a premium to mostly early Red adopters.
Epic-X: The cast body general production line version. Supposed to be in early production runs by NAB. May suffer some ramp up delays due to the Japan quake creating supply problems.
Epic-S: Former Scarlet S35, moved to the Epic platform with the addition of HDRx features. No firm specs yet but more limited on frame rates, maximum data rates, and compression ratios with a brain price tag expected around $12k. Ships after initial orders for Epic-X satisfied. No firm schedule yet.
Both Scarlet 2/3" models still coming, fixed version first. Subject to some delay due to parts supply issues resulting from the quake, but expected sometime end of summer/fall.
All models are being built in the USA. Final prices and package discounts still TBD.
Watch for more info around NAB time in mid April.

The Epic S is supposed to have a frame rate at 5K of 60fps. In HDRx mode it will top out at 30fps.

The Epic X runs at 120fps, and up to 60fps in HDRx mode.

There are other differences in the codec compression and other details. The shift of the former "Scarlet S35" into the Epic line also involved other changes, such as using the same basic body case, but the change needed to accommodate the HDRx feature at a reasonable frame rate was the biggest and most far reaching.

Thanks for your answers Alexander,

That really helped me pointing out whats happening in the Red world ;)

Greetings,

Robert

You are very welcome, but I don't know how useful my answer would have been without David's answer to provide a framework.
