  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

whats best camera setting for flat cinematography?

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread...igh-Speed-Lens-Shootout-quot-WFO-quot-Results

That thread has a couple R3D's you can download. I would suggest you take everyone else's recommendations and either hire someone who's used a RED camera, or at least have someone sit with you and show you how to work it. I understand you can't do it before the shoot, but it really sounds like a bad idea to use this camera having never used it before on an important shoot.

Thanks Noel R. You're right. but in my country red epic daily rental is very expensive. there are only 4 or 5 red epic cameras in my city. there aren't any chance for every film maker or cinematographer for work with this daily or even monthly.

Where do you live?

Listen to Björn. He is a smart guy... :-)

You cannot controll exposure with iso settings...

Have a look at that bit.ly link in my signature...

You need nd's to controll exposure, use iris/aperture to control dof and shutter/framerate to control motion...

For example i need zeiss cp2 lenses for combine with red epic body. but only there are red kit lenses(35,50,85) for rental. never find cinema lenses(ultra prime ,cooke ,...) even compact prime lenses is very rare here.

There re no red "kit lenses"

If you have thechance to shoot red pro primes, (not the zooms), those are really very good cinema lenses... Much better than... Well... A lot...

But "cinematic look" is kinda a strange term. Lighting and framing and how you expose are probably bigger factors than anything for that, whatever it is...

yes they aren't kit lenses. but i think zeiss lenses gives better results in sharpness than red prime lenses.

I live in tehran.

I think Noisy behavior between dslr sensors & red sensors is very very different. in dslr cameras setting iso in 160 or 320 gives low noises. iso 800 in dslr has very terrible noises. but in red cameras often set to iso 800. i need to a little more study on noisy behaviors in red camera sensors.

I have friends there.

Reds lenses are much sharpet and moreconsistent than the cp2's...

If you want "film look", teheran has a lot of old film glass.
An old angie hr zoom or possibly a set of zeiss standardspeeds is a better bet than cp's

Red primes look a bit between cooke s4 and masterprimes. They really are uncredible for a "modern" look.

1 important question : when i want to export r3d files from red cine x to after effects for color grading. whats best export formats and codecs for grading in after effects?

Hm... You shouldn't? Does that make sense?

What do you edit in?

Conform to a raw online in resolve lite.
It is free.

Set meta to redlogfilm/640/5000 (for batch) and grade from there

Here's a ton of old glass images:

Oh. I did not know. With this interpretation , i will try with red prime lenses in my new music video.

You should, fom what it sounds like.

But you teally need a kit with matte and filter to controll the look, whatever glass you choose, especially if shooting daylight exts...
