  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What You think about "STEREO 70 " 3D system ?

First off, let me say I'm not a fan of 3D. I feel it's just a reoccurring fad and hope it dies off again very soon. I find it distracting from the movie watching experience, it's take the experience out of the mind and into a physical room (theater).

That said, I'm not one to shun things that people request and would embrace it if demand dictated it, silly not to.

I feel the current 3D methods are absolute lunacy. Grasping at straws and coming up with these ridiculous, cumbersome two camera smoke and mirrors contraptions to make it work. Not saying this methods aren't brilliant, technically they are, but only because a better way has yet to be found.

It needs to be in a single, self-contained system, one camera to make it practical. We also need to ditch the glasses on the viewing end. Any step in that direction I would consider a good one. These are the only ways in which I see 3D becoming the norm.

Why would someone bother posting such an ill informed, unproductive and wholly negative comment in a 3D forum? The statement does not even address the original post with any helpful information. If you hope 3D dies soon, but would shoot it if someone wanted you to, you should not be shooting 3D. Stick to 2D. Shooting 3D properly requires a deep understanding and dedication to the medium. Doing it well is not easy. There are already enough people doing slipshod work in this field, your contribution is not wanted.

The Stereo 70 system is a tool like any other. Just as you would not use a screwdriver alone to build a house, this is one of many tools you may choose. It will not revolutionize 3D shooting. It's an old system. For certain tasks it is very good, for others it is very bad. Its advantages are obvious, smaller, lighter, far easier to use. Disadvantages include limitations in focal length, resolution and control of the 3D effect.

I'll bite.

First off, if you want the 'in the mind experience' I'd say read the book. Spielberg says that too.
Oh, and many of the most powerful photographs I've seen are black and white. The color distracts from the emotions captured. Ditch color.
Scorsese did a nice interview I listened to where he said how much he liked 3D, even mentioning how 'Taxi Driver' might look if he had it back then.

True, the camera systems are really hard to work cobbled together things. It will evolve. Just like story telling did with cinema.
