I am arranging a 'short circuit' of screenings of four films in the UK. With a certain cinema chain. I have a four film slot and I am curious what people would love to see on the big screen.

The event was initially designed around Bertolucci's Il Conformista (30th anniversary) and in my mind the slots would be filled with visual masterpieces that rarely get shown on the big screen.

Barry Lyndon? Eyes Wide Shut? In the Mood for Love? Thin Red Line? Apocalypse Now?

I don't know if it's a visual masterpiece, but maybe Watership Down?

Actually alot of cities have either revival houses and/or film schools that
regularly show all of the above mentioned films.

2001
The Wizard of Oz
The Searchers/ The Wild Bunch
Rebel Without a Cause/ Vertigo

..goes without saying the David Lean movies always look great up there...

In the mood for love is on my list actually (as is Citizen Kane although I don't expect to get a print of it). Barry Lyndon has been mentioned on Scarlet User and I quite like the idea of it. Eyes Wide Shut is a no go as its an 18 cert but Apoc Now Redux is 15. Nice choices.

Don't think I could sell Watership Down to them despite its value. ;)

The BFI and independents do a pretty good job but like I said it was originally dreamed up for The Conformist and that is where the sponsor's got onboard. I am affiliated with the cinemas so that is my main role.

This thread is just for interest point of what people would love to see up on the big screen.

Nice choices so far...especially Vertigo. Wouldn't mind seeing that. Saw The Lodger with musical accompaniment the other day. That was great.

Powder -a very unusual, thought provoking film.Tragic, bittersweet and intense.Didn`t quite know what to think when i first saw it,but it`s stuck in my mind ever since..would love to see it screened.

Koyaanisqatsi is a good idea. Maybe too slow for some audiences, though.

Apollo 13. Saw it the one time at the theater when it came out, blew me away. Have seen it repeatedly on tv since then, but nothing compares to seeing it at the movie theater. Watching the launch sequence (combination of amazing visuals and James Horner's masterful score) on that 40' screen is what made me want to become a filmmaker.

Jacques Tati's Playtime - without a doubt.

Also, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me & Until The End Of The World (Director's Cut) - I've seen them all on the big screen including Playtime in 70mm at BFI Southbank during the Tati Season in 2003 but I could watch them all, again and again :)

Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre-- Make it a double-header. Back in '01 and '02, several classics were restored and released in theaters that I was lucky to see. "Rear Window." "Apocalypse Now." "Alien." "The Exorcist." I was lucky to have caught "Dark Knight" in true IMAX, not the shite that passes for IMAX today. (They don't have true IMAX theatres in Las Vegas circa 2010. Can you believe that?

Two that I must see before I'm dead or blind. Baraka and Lawrence of Arabia. 70mm only please.
