What would a 17-year-old like in a SCARLET?

A 3K sensor capable of 60 fps with support for 1920x1080 at at least 120 fps, upgradeable 2/3" sensor (35mm would be nice) with support for replacing with a larger sensor later, autofocus and both the lens mount and REDMAG module included for $16,000. Oh, and a signed autograph from Mr. Jannard. =) That's what I would like in a SCARLET. Whichever features it has or doesn't have, I plan on purchasing one anyway. I am hoping, however, that the brain alone will cost less than $12,000 so that I can place an order tomorrow the moment it goes live on RED's site. If it costs more than that, I may have to wait a few months... Another wish of mine is that they ship by November 23rd (my birthday), but I'm not too concerned about when it arrives as long as I can at least get on 'The List.'

Personally, I think this is a little more realistic than some of the other feature predictions I've been reading about on the forums (I mean 9K at 120 fps? Come on now...). But, I suppose we'll all know after the announcement. Tomorrow will truly be an exciting day.

I'm also curious to see what type of SCARLET packages RED will be selling. Some information tomorrow on the Mini Prime lenses would be nice also.

By the way, this is my first post here on the forum, so if I said anything I shouldn't have, my apologies. It's nice to meet all of you. :)

Hi Brian...we'll know for sure soon : ). You will be able to edit your user profile as soon as you make a few more posts (2 I think is the official number). Enjoy the last day of waiting...hope you're able to order right away.

You were correct. New users need to make a few posts before they can edit their user profiles. I read your reply after making a couple of posts and I was able to edit the page.

What I am curious about is how a 17 year old can afford ANY Red Camera? You're one lucky 17 year old. lol. :yesnod:

welcome mate.... I might be reading it wrong, but are you saying you would like a lesser spec'd camera to what Scarlet was going to be, for nearly 3x the price! (but with Jim's autograph)

I'll sell you my GH2 for $5k if you want, comes with David Beckham's autograph.... I am willing to accept RED store credit.

I find your post interesting because it sounds like you know the specifications of "what Scarlet was going to be." I personally do not know the specifications of SCARLET, and to my knowledge, no one else here will know until this afternoon. The specifications I listed above are the minimum specs I would like to see in a SCARLET at that price. I'm truly hoping the feature list is going to be a bit more impressive than that, but we'll see. Regarding Mr. Jannard's autography, I was only kidding. It would be nice, though. =)

BTW, thank you everyone for the welcome.

Actually at 17, I could have oddly enough bought a Red One package... but I spent my "funds" on college instead. Oh well, at least I got my money's worth for those 6 years...

Up until the "nov 3rd" announcement of an announcement.... the specs seemed as set in stone as you get with RED

2/3" fixed lens, 1-120fps (150 frame burst), HDRx... that was in a basic kit for around $6k.

Me too wondering how you can afford when you're 17 (why market yourself as such, by the way? just wondering). Either you programmed quite a few websites which you probably didn't pay VAT over, or you're just a spoiled kid. Just kidding of course, but you get the point.
I always get a bit 15-year-olds-with-iPads-and-iPhones-feeling about this, you know what i mean? Really think this through, don't just buy one because you can. Personally improving in your skills is better than improving your equipment. When you're not sure about the specs but still know you're going to buy it anyway for SO MUCH MONEY, i don't think you know what you need or don't need. Buying a better camera doesn't make a better filmmaker. On the other hand, i'm sure you'll learn loads from buying a SCARLET and working with it, which might give everything a boost. Just think about it.

BUT - if you earned all that money making film/video's, i don't think there's a better way to invest your money.

Give this young man a break. If you would have taken the time to look before you spoke. I mean he has a website on his profile. He has a nicer site than many of the professionals on this forum.

You would also have noticed that he has gear already.

So welcome a fellow shooter, who is doing more at 17 than most of his fellow high schoolers who are playing Battlefront, and he is updating his contact list.

Hi there! Thanks for your post. To be completely honest with you, I find your post quite annoying. "Either you programmed quite a few websites which you probably didn't pay VAT over, or you're just a spoiled kid." What is that supposed to mean? Also, I do not "get the point," as you assumed in your third sentence. I will make this short because there really is only one thing I have to say: The reason I said I'm going to get a SCARLET, no matter which features it has or doesn't have is because I already know what RED quality is. I don't need to know the specs of the camera because I know that whatever it's going to be like, if it's built by RED, it's going to be good. And not just good, but better than anything else that exists. Buying good equipment won't make you a good photography or cinematographer. I know that. In fact, I probably understand that concept better than most people here. However, if you combine good skill with good equipment, there's not much you wouldn't be able to do.

Also, allow me to correct another point you stated which you are mistaken on. Sentence seven, you say: "i don't think you know what you need or don't need." Daniel, I know exactly what I need and what I don't need. And one of the things I don't need is for you to annoy me.

I may be overreacting to your simple forum post, however I don't like it when people take me for a typical 17-year-old.

Hopefully the sensor upgrade will be available, seeing that it originally sounded like a fixed 2/3" which would SUCK. In that case it'd be better to rob a bank and get EPIC ;)
