  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What will make it or break it for u?????

I think $8k for the brain only would be an awesome deal and totally steal the market as long as it was S35 sensor. I was considering the 2/3" model but after thinking about it for the last couple of weeks, I'm not so sure anymore; unless it has like an f0.9 lens on it, then sure but RED lenses seem to be slower. I'm just so use to shooting on larger sensors (M43 and Full) it would be a hard habit to break.

So many options, so little info.. well, assuming we are talking about an African Elephant, and not the smaller Indian Elephant, and assuming it can be fed on apples, instead of oranges.. I'd say, none of the above.. I'll save my vote until Nov. 4th, then vote on the "are you happy now" poll

I wouldn't be surprised if some second hand red 1s will be in demand

At least we know the prices for the modules and stuff, and we did get a heads up for the price increases next year. At this point we really should just wait and see.

The camera will be 1/2 of your total kit outlay minimum. Budget $15-20K for Scarlet, $90-120K for Epic. If you're stressing over the difference between Scarlet at $6K or $9 you might take a step back and look at the total cost of the ecosystem that surrounds REDraw workflow.

Are you including editing? Im sure there are some camera operators here who don't edit their material. I have 10K into Canon Glass plus 3K in Rails/Monitor/Accessories, I figure IF Scarlet goes interchangeable S35, and its 15K shootable out the door then im 28K invested in camera gear. And i don't edit everything I shoot.

Yeah but the Body is a big enough Wild Card to put people into the unknown.

I put my DSLR kit on craigslist in preparation to potentially sell it and buy a scarlet... I am a little short on cash though so the price will make or break whether I buy it first day or need to wait it out and save some. I paid off half of my education debt this year, which is sort of good from an interest perspective, but really silly from a "now I can't even afford my dream camera and no one will give me credit" perspective. I am feeling quite a lot of debt paying remorse as of lately. I had enough cash for a really legitimate set up

I am forever surprised that people will tell a manufacture they are willing to pay a higher amount. Shouldn't everyone be selecting the $6k box. Jim, I bet you're laughing the whole way to the bank :)

There a little more market strategy to it than pricing something biased on what a few people say they would pay on a forum.

@ JOSH LOL earlier post

As I stand on the lawn shortening Josh’s garden hose to make a bong . The thing that has occurred to me that a lot of the angst over the price is a misunderstanding that the camera is a stand alone unit. Hence up to $7K I am in over $8K I’m out thinking.

When you buy a “professional” (jeeze I dislike that word here) camera you are buying into a whole eco system of additional gear & costs. People coming from DLSR land do know this rule, maybe some have forgotten it, but the rule is only amplified the higher up you go. Personally I would budget for camera say 30 to 40% the other 60% on everything else & that’s for a basic kit. If you find this confronting, don’t give up do the sums work hard or save hard , own this camera a year from now not right now.

If it can do stills, particularly HDRx stills, and at something more than 14mp, then I'd be happy on that front. For my minimum video needs, it'd have to be S35 and 4K and at least up to 30fps. Now, for price, I couldn't do it anywhere above $9,000. There's simply too many other things to consider at that point. I would be very grateful for $8,000 and under, but it all depends on what the Scarlet turns out to be in the end.

They now make these rigs for Epic's we hope they make them for Scarlet

Nice, it will be interesting to see how quickly scarlet accessories start emerging. I have a feeling it's going to be a huge market thanks to Scarlet's Flexibility and Small Form Factor, should give designers plenty to work with.

For the Scarlet Announcement I don't want a live feed to RED Studios - I want a Ruben & SheriO ReactionCam. I believe that is where the center of fun and excitement is going to be ; )

The only thing that breaks me is if they don't have enough in stock. That would break my heart!

To the last two posts....... Ruben and Sheri O - you seem like nice people ...good on you for having a go.....not my kind of crazy but still respect

Lliam Worthington you punch me in the guts you make me laugh that hard fkn hell
