A music Video for me!!!!!

Rueben and Sheri,

In my opinion you left off your poll choice list a significant number of genres of production for which Scarlet will undoubtedly be used extensively for. Here are some of those other genres that I believe should have been on your selection list:

Alternative sports, adventure travel, lifestyle, cultures, reality, wildlife, tourism, nature, food - and many more genres. Perhaps in your thinking these were all lumped under Documentary. Cable television is absolutely loaded with programs in the genres I named - and some of them indeed may be in a documentary format - but a huge percentage of those programs are not in a documentary format.

Each of the genres I named are usually shot, as are documentaries, in mobile EFP (electronic field production) style, also known as non-hardlined EFP production. As an aggregate block, in terms of sheer numbers of productions each year, the genres I named represent a gigantic percentage of the television productions done each year worldwide.

I also DP lots of longform music television productions - and I also intend to use Scarlet for that genre, which is only somewhat on your list as "Music Videos". Cable networks and channels such as CMT, VH1, Palladia, and more air tons of longform music productions each year - each of which is shot in mobile EFP style - some being docs, and others long form concerts. The multiple Red One camera productions of the bands Heart (in Seattle) and Journey (in Manila) longform productions I recently DP'd (both aired on VH1 and Palladia), were linear live lookback productions - hardlined at the venues just for behind stage big iMag screen, but simultaneously recorded to on-camera drives for later editing in a live lookback style. I expect Scarlet to be an excellent camera for this type of production, and even straight hardlined studio productions.

Depending on the finalization of Scarlet's specifications on November 3, I fully expect Scarlet to be used extensively in those mobile EFP genres I named. Even Red One has been used for years now in some of those genres, and Epic is now used for many of them too.

I do extensive work in many of the genres I named - but I can't vote in your poll because you left all of them out of your selection list. My first Scarlet production will be in one of those genres I mentioned - as will probably tons of other user's first productions.

Spot on Steve. I know many in the Action Sports world waiting to get there hands on one. This will be my main application for it as well.

My fourth feature film... sci-fi action, "Final Fantasy" meets "Blade Runner" style film set in the near future.

HOLY SHIT!

Did I read this right? I knew Ridley Scott was making a new Blade Runner but I didn't know you were going to do it with probably three hundred odd scarlets?

Sorry, RL, must be sick of Ridley scott jokes. But with a name like that and referencing blade runner, I just couldn't resist.

Good luck with the project, sounds great. I'm a big sci-fi fan, especially Blade Runner - used to play Final fantasy also.
I'm actually also making a fantasy feature (my first).

Best
Lliam

Thanks Jeffrey. Yup, action sports television and videos should be a great application for Scarlet. Over the years I've done a ton of action sports TV programs that aired on ESPN, NBC, Fox Sports Net, OLN, Fuel, and other networks. I can't wait to put Scarlet into our kits for those kinds of programs! Get a Scarlet kit, add in a GoPro Hero2 for POV shots, and you have a complete mobile, low profile, guerilla production package.

BTW - I totally agree with what you posted at the end of your post #41 on this thread about keeping a low profile in public. Me and my crews use plain backpacks, don't tell anyone unnecessarily what we're doing, don't put anything on our camera rigs that doesn't absolutely have to be there (no MB or FF), never post online, Twitter, FB, or blog where we're going to be (we post up after we've left a location), and the crews are almost always three people or less. Equipment security and our own personal safety are at the very top of our list!

Fun times ahead for guerilla type mobile EFP production with Scarlet :)

Awesome Steve! Those are some awesome accomplishments. I'm guessing you'll be around for Dew Tour, X Games, possibly even the World Cup at Beaver Creek? If you still do that kind of work.

A little off topic, but if you already have a Go Pro, I'd hang onto that one and wait for further advancements. Just my 2 cents.

And yeah obviously when I shoot at mountains and events I feel pretty safe, even then I'm usually the guy on the deck of some jump in the dark, or in the tree's hiding from the event security haha (Dew Tour in Breckenridge and Squaw) one year when they wouldn't let anyone record the finals I posted up in good hidden spots to prevent getting caught. I'd even hide behind tree's while waiting for athletes to drop in. Obviously I usually have credentials but it's always good to have a quick, low key kit to get around. I was a one man band at X games one year having to get around a Dolly and all on my own so the smaller the camera, and kit the better!

If your around these parts for events I'd love to meet you and your Epic :)

In the 80's, 90's, and up into around 2005 I did action sports TV programs heavily - all the action sports pro tours worldwide of surfing, skiing, snowboarding, inline skating, skateboardling, jetski, sailboarding, freestyle motocross, etc. . Even with Red One I've done some action sports - in December 2007 I directed a 3-Red One production covering the Pipeline Masters ASP pro surfing event on Oahu - one camera in the water, one in a helicopter, and I shot the long lens on-beach camera. Last year I also shot with Red One the Mavericks big wave event at Half Moon Bay, CA. Fun stuff!

I do have some of the original GoPro cameras and use them regularly. The specs on the new GoPro2 look pretty good too. What I'd like to see is for Red to come out with a tiny lipstick or GoPro form factor POV camera that shoots 3k Redcode at 60fps! IMO that could happen at some point in the future. My friend Jim Jannard has a huge action sports background from his time with Oakley - so he obviously knows how a Red POV camera would compliment Scarlet (and even Epic and Red One) for many genres of mobile EFP productions. To be clear, I have no knowledge that Red is planning such a camera, but in my opinion it would make perfect sense for Red to make one.

My studio is here in Southern Utah, and you're in the next state over (Colorado). Hopefully I'll get over there this winter - and if you're headed this way check with me and If I'm around I'd be happy to meet with you :)

Wow again that is awesome. I only got to Hawaii this year for Surfing. Mostly around Maui (Hokipa and Hana). I've got some of the B-Roll shot's below in a Reel that I put together with extra footage from the trip if you want to check it out! Not Mavericks but some cool shot's in there. Pretty small too since it was the start of Summer.

I'd definitely would give you a shout if I'm cruising through to LA or Vegas for a weekend perhaps!

I'd love to see a RED one in the water too, that must be a beastly setup.
