Being at the higher end of the 4000th red owner, I can't imagine geting a TATTOO ticket, but I'm still hoping :) My realistic choice is stageII, get the amazing EPIC-X and later upgrade my R1 seems to be a sensible way to go.

The demand for TATTOO seems quite high, Jim is a brilliant businessman. I can imagine he would not want to disappoint too many competent people.

I feel the same way, I actually want to upgrade to the Mysterium-X and pay off the upgrade then use it as a back up camera to the Epic-X for my features.

Good plan. Only $4500 and can get a lot more use out of the ONE. I think I will do the same.

We have two Red Ones.

I keep going around and around trying to figure this one out. Same issue here, several options.

One that I'm thinking is...upgrade to 2 EPIC-X cameras and sell the 2nd, use the proceeds to buy a FF35 Scarlet, which will make a good 2nd cam...that's really the best configuration for my business. It means a lot of money up front and a degree of risk if it doesn't work out, though. But someone who missed that 29th cut-off date will undoubtedly want to buy one of these at cost and still get all the accessories to start shooting.

Which means I'll sell my trusty RED ONE, which I don't want to do, I'd rather upgrade one of them to Mysterium-X, but adding another $4500 to that complicated mix is more than I can do...

...and I may change my mind with Jim's further clarifications.

thinking out loud...

Having a proven working camera as a backup/b-cam will put me firmly into stage 1 or 2. Upgrading the sensor as soon as possible. Don't think I have an early enough serial number to get into stage 1 though (2537)? I'm also a sucker for a darker camera (grey or black) and am not sure I want a shiny silver one as pretty as it looks...

R1 is already a good camera!!! ;)
a R1 + MX is just a little better.

Even a normal not upgraded R1 is probably a very good backup camera for EPIC-X. Can't imagine any other camera coming close in quality, look-n-feel and work flow etc...
