  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What monitors do you use on your epic - 5" a necessity?

Is the 5" touchscreen just good for navigating menus? Is it useful at all for critical focus? Not sure at 800x480 that it would be.....

I see that there's a 7".... but it would appear you'd be losing functionality either way?

Is the touchscreen pretty much a pre-req? If not, anyone running a 2nd monitor? I think I've read that this can be a problem too....(lack of connections)

Trying to outfit my first RED - Thanks for any tips and insight.

Focus is decent on the 5" if you set the monitor to go full screen. When displaying all the menus and other info, focus is very hard. On my last shoot I ran the 5" plus a 5.6" TV Logic for the AC to help pull off of. He thought it was very sharp and almost never buzzed focus in 4 days of handheld with almost no focus marks.

The SmallHD DP6-SDI is fantastic for focus, and build quality, UI, and customer service are amazing.

I'd also like to know - isn't everything doaeble on the Redmote?

Small HD DP6 is what I favor. I do think that a higher resolution monitor than the touch LCD is necessary. You don't want to leave focus to chance. I've heard good things about the TV logic monitor as well.
