  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What Makes RED Cameras special to you?

Thank You all for some awesome responses, I really appreciate all the feedback. Hoping I can join the RED Club soon and create amazing content.

Though it doesn't sound like you need it, here's one more opinion for choosing an Epic over a DSLR... Buyer's remorse. I think everyone who owns a DSLR gets a twinge of that each time a new camera comes out and obsoletes their old one... to some degree. And while RED does come with new sensors, ASICS, etc., they still have a system that allows your old R-1 RAW footage to be brought up-to-date via RED's evolving color science. RED footage stays relevant long after it is shot.

If you had to explain the Advantages of RED over say a DSLR in common terms that a non Tech person would understand what would you say?

As an independent filmmaker who has recently moved up to a R1MX from shooting mostly on 7D, the closest analogy I can think of is being used to driving a RAV4 and then suddenly finding yourself at the wheel of a Humvee. :smile5: And no, I don't mean a Hummer.

For explaining all this to a layperson, I've found that the words "you could shoot a Hollywood film on this thing" tend to bring the message across much better than getting into too many details about 4K, raw capture etc.

Cheers!
T
