What LUTs is everyone using for Raven?

I've searched through the forum and found some good resources about LUTs, the most promising of which seems to be the PhilmColor Creative 3D LUT set. REDuser thread here, and link to the LUT set here. But before I go spending $325 on the set, I wanted to ask y'all what you're using and/or liking as far as LUTs go for Raven. You know, in case there's something out there that I haven't seen yet -- i.e. not filmconvert! :rolleyes5:

There are two hangups I have with PhilmColor, although they might be products of ignorance: first, the set is designed for IPP2 which Raven doesn't have yet, at least in camera. Second, the 3D LUTs are 33x33x33 and I have absolutely no idea what that means. But in some other thread, a Raven user expressed some hesitance at possibly having to use software to convert them to 17x17x17. Again, I don't know what that means other than that there seem to be two measurements of 3D LUTs. Can Raven use one, and not the other?

Interested to hear what other Raven users are doing and having success with.

Good evening Sean. Raven #61 here. I'm packing for the eclipse but wanted to offer some quick thoughts. Happy to provide a more detailed response in the morning.

philmColor is absolutely fantastic. I've been using it on every gig since I've purchased it. Crow, Crane, Egret are in heavy rotation.

We've learned that only Helium bodies will have IPP2 in camera. It's not just Raven that won't be able to see IPP2 in cam. You can continue to shoot in RedGamma4 or RedLogFilm and then "develop" the image using IPP2 in post. The Dragon cameras do not have the hardware in camera for IPP2.

Some platforms and cameras can't take 3D LUTs (33x33x33). For example, the Scarlet-W can take LUTs but only at 17x17x17. The Raven can not display LUTs in camera at all. However, you can preview with RedWideGamutRGB/Log3G10 and use something like a SmallHD monitor to preview the IPP2 look using the transform LUTs.

I see you're in the Bay Area. If you want to meet up I'd be more than happy to.

Well, you could try not using LUTs at all and just color-correct it. As I often say, I just keep turning the knobs until the picture sucks less. With few exceptions, just about anything you can do in a LUT you can do on a full-featured color-correction program, though it does take time and experience to get it right.

Not on Raven. But The workflow with all Dragons are basically the same.

I shot DC2/RG3 in camera, adjust the Raw decode in resolve to IPP2. Then Im using either Graeme's Ipp2 transform for natural looking stuff or Film Convert (which has Ipp2 support now) for for filmic stuff. Particularly Velvia and FUJI 8543.
All as just a base grade.
