  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What kind of Rod system can we expect for the S35?

Moving gear around to buy new lenses for my eventual S35, I am going to be selling my Redrock Micro M2 kit on Ebay.

Planning to replace the heavy Redrock rod/support with something a little lighter and it occurs to me that the Scarlet is going to be shaped a little differently than the Red or my HVX200.

Do we know what kind of rod system will work on the Scarlet? Will it be proprietary or will it be pretty much standard flavor?

I'd like to keep 15mm rods to go with all my attachments, and I'm hoping I don't have to buy a lot of adapters or replace any more gear than I have to!

Does anyone know?

Thanks!

I doubt anyone actually knows except maybe some people at Red... and remember "subject to change" is a mantra we live with (some of us happily). I doubt it would be proprietary -- and I imagine both 15mm & 19mm rods would be accommodated.

That's what I'm hoping. I was just looking at the pictures on red.com and from the Red event in Vegas and I suddenly realized that the brain is pretty small. With a battery, storage and I/O module it might have a more 'classic' video camera shape.

As I recall there's a Scarlet/Epic specific "RED Riser" to put the new cameras at the correct height and spacing to work with existing 15mm/19mm aks.

Good question. While the RED ONE massively increased the number of 19mm rods in the world, I still find that accessories made for 15mm rods are, on average, less expensive. Ideally, just like with the R1, we'll be able to use either type of rod with Scarlet and Epic cameras.

Another question (which may be somewhat related) is the concept of the RED Riser. It strikes me as a riser to allow the use of 19mm rods, so perhaps the new brains are all 15mm? This is pure speculation, of course.

Scarlets at Reduser NAB party had rod systems, can see them pretty clearly on Peter Majtans pictures

Those are the pix I was looking at this morning.
I was at he party and the camera didn't look all that small. Probably due to all the bitchin add-ons.
Well, I'm just going to get a newer redrock or Zacuto baseplate for now and use my Cinetech rods. I'll cross the Scarlet bridge when I come to it.

Too bad the camera won't be coming with all the fancy stuff in the pictures..., or WILL it?
