  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PREMIER>RESOLVE>PREMIER WORKFLOW?

Works fine I do it all the time, but you have to clean up your PP timeline to prep for the roundtrip - you can't just send any ol' thing over and expect it to come back in reasonable shape:

make sure the sequence is the same resolution as you plan to master and you use 'scale to frame size' (i.e. probaby not 5k) otherwise your scaling / framing WILL be f#$%$ in Resolve.

as few layers as possible

remove all effects besides speed changes

framing, and opacity

BTW - these are not just for Resolve, but for ANY one-way or round trip to grading or mastering.

cheers,

JT

Totally painless. Trouble free. Using resolve lite. Render to 1080 uncompressed YUV and CS6 is a happy camper.

Can someone please explain the usefulness of "round-tripping"?

Step 1, get your project out of your NLE. I get that.
Step 2, Grade in Resolve.
Step 3, (this is the part I'm assuming completes the round trip?) Bring back into NLE....but as what? And Why? My workflow at this point is to render out something of the best quality as my master, but why the need to maintain edit points/time-lines at this point?

I've just finished grading a feature film, coming from EDIUS as AAF into Resolve. It works fine, but like XML you need a clean timeline (no FX).

Round trips are rarely used in feature films (at the higher end anyway), but are common in short-form workflows. The main reason is effects. It's much easier to conform and finish titles, lower thirds, all those whacky speed warps, etc... in the NLE on a short turnaround than it is breaking everything out, duplicated the vfx (speedwarps, etc...) and titles that were already created for approval in the NLE.

cheers,

JT
