  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What is the physical CCD size per frame quality?

Hello
Does anyone know what the theoretical "physical" size of a scarlet CCD when using the different frame sizes (4K, 3K, 2K etc)? The reason why I ask is that when doing 3D camera tracking in post, I need to know the physical size of the CCD in comparison to lens length. As the different frame sizes are a zoom on the CCD, i do not get right camera calculation if I use the full frame size. I presume that if I use 36x18.95mm as full frame in 4K on a Scarlett , at 2K the crop equals a frame size of 18x 9.475mm.
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks for any thoughts.

What Ulf Krentz said :o)
From red.com: LENS COVERAGE: 27.7mm (h) x 14.6mm (v) x 31.4 mm (d)
The FF35 in the link below is a DSLR FF, I assume as comparison.

Make certain that the communication was clear about 4K, 4K WS or 4K HD, etc., for example. (That sounds maybe as nit-picking as to point out that the RED has no CCD, it is a CMOS. Sorry if I went too far with that)

I hope the information in the LINK will clear your question, and some math is perhaps needed to translate this into "mm". Good luck with the project

Most cameras these days use CMOS not CCD. Though there still is a sensor, and with these crop ins you do use less of it, everything else is accurate

Please note a Scarlet in 4k or 4kHD is not the full sensor. The MX in DSMC is a 5k sensor. Scarlet just can't do it at speed so no one shoots it besides on Epic or Dragons... (or time-lapse)

Here's the dimension (h x v (in mm)):

5K FF: 27,648 x 14,58
4K: 22,118 x 11,664
4K HD: 20,736 x 11,664
3K: 16,589 x 8,748
3K HD: 15,552 x 8,748
2K: 11,059 x 5,832
2K HD: 10,368 x 5,832
2K WS: 11,059 x 4,612
1K HD: 6,912 x 3,888
1K WS: 6,912 x 2,592

Thank you for the reponses. I am now getting accurate camera calculations.
Thanks for all the info.
