  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What is the current status of the Scarlet?

Joseph, I think this is the first time the Scarlet was confirmed to have HDRX , which was not there in the initial plans :) I think this was to be in the Epic-S and one of the main reasons to differentiate Scarlet from Epic-S. I think this is excellent potential news for Scarlet Fixed users... :) This also opens the possibility for higher frame rates, since HDRX requires double the frames to work.

Of course, I'm waiting for the Epic-S equivalent Scarlet, so this news doesn't interest me... Or maybe it does, since it confirms the Scarlet body can accomodate HDRx, which can also mean that The Epic S is back to "Scarlet" status. I'm probably reading too much into this, I'm sure many things changed since back when you played with the camera. I hope however that Jim's statement of "everything modular" means that while we get a lower specced S35 Scarlet it means we can get to "Epic" with a clear, affordable, not " throw everything out to the trash" upgrade path...

Not quite. There were lenghty threads about introduction of HDRx into Scarlet long time ago. Mr Jannard at that point in time stated that all RED cameras will have HDRx (being such a great feature), no exceptions. Then there were polls, and discussions about the projected price increase etc... Not sure how you missed that. Anyway it is nothing new that Scarlet will have HDRx.

Well, this was completely my bad. I quit reading the Scarlet threads as soon as EPIC-S appeared. Back then I thought there were concerns of HDRx being too CPU intense to fit into the Scarlet body? I don't know were I read this before.

Anyway, good to see one of the most amazing features of Red technology in the Scarlet... We all win with this.

Thanks for the feedback. We love this information...

Hehe.

The big difference in the form factor from the Scarlet vs the EPIC is that the Scarlet Brain's width is equal to the REDmote. Much lighter and easy to whip around on the go (I had gotten used to Ketch's Master Primes on the EPIC).

The images looked great on RC-X on my laptop. HDRx worked just like it does on the EPIC. We didn't view them on a "properly calibrated monitor" for the ones who want to get really technical.

We used the RED Bricks just like we did on the EPIC. (the REDvolts had not been released back in early April). I did get to use the REDvolts the next time I shot with the Scarlet. It was even crazier the form factor since there was no tethering for power required.

The focal length was the 35mm equivalent of A 28-224mm.

As advertised, it is a 3K camera. I believe the exact resolution we were shooting was 3072x1628? I may be wrong on the 1628 though...

All of these things that I have mentioned are subject to change...
