  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What is the current status of the Scarlet?

If you look at it objectively, there's no way that's a logical answer as too much time has transpired thus far. There's no way everything for Scarlet is sitting on the proverbial assembly line with nobody to assemble it.. If it was still an issue with ONE lens part, I'm sure we'd have heard something.. There were auto manufacturers that were understandably down for a short period due to multiple part sourcing issues but not that long in hindsight. There's definitely something going on with Scarlet's non-release... I'm 99.9% *sure of it...

*for the record; my opinion is based solely on happy little butterflies and chocolate covered rainbows.. Take it with a grain of salt ; )

...Making that purchase is only an indication that my dreams have expanded since the Scarlet's initial announcement

I second that. I just can wait a bit longer as I get my dreams into shape. It's probably something that may not have happened right now if it were not for red.

P.S. I just thought you convinced your parents that buying an epic-m was a better move then film school :)

I think the main point was we were told scarlet would not come until a few months after epic-x release, and considering we are still within that time frame I'd say that's correct to assume that it's still on a slightly modified schedule. Also we must consider the fact that they are no longer releasing any info until they are going to release it... who knows about the assembly and what is and is not being made, when it's been two or more months after significant epic-x's shipping and still no scarlet then I would be worried, but for now (I know it sucks) we have to hold tight and wait our turn. I'm hoping it's the quiet before the storm... but who knows

Joseph did the Scarlet already have playback working? If your allowed to say it of course.

One way of looking at it.

Maybe the Scarlet is completely ready to go. Why would RED release the details to far ahead to tip their hat? I think everyone knows there are a lot if sales on the line at this price point. Jim has stated his two surprises and I think one is directly related to what competitors produce and release.

If canon announces a camera and a timeframe in November it puts red in the "specs" drivers seat and can release a Scarlet that is feature rich.

So if you are waiting for Scarlet then silence from RED is a good thing. Not a bad thing.

Ps: with regard to Joseph Hutson and some of the silly talk around his M. Joseph has obviously worked very hard to learn and expressed a keen willingness to do what it takes to learn and be present. It's sad to see people ripping on him or making bold assumptions.

If you are going to assume then assume tha Joseph busted ass, generated some business and is going to use his machine to generate dollars, anyone at any age can do that with the right attitude. Hard work pays off. Always. Good on Joseph for having a thick skin and taking the high road.

Just a little question to you. Only answer if you're allowed...
Did you see the footage you shot with it ?

It may have, but I never checked.

I asked for "RUN/STOP" like Peter Jackson had with Boris and Natasha. Though what I got was a whole lot more...

Was there more than one question? :D

I just thought the yes answer segues nicely to and...your impressions? Form factor, image quality? Was the zoom wide enough? Telephoto enough? How much battery life? 3k Vs. 5k etc...

You know, just basically what everyone is wondering... :)

Sometimes a fixed lens zoom has the tiny problem of not being quite wide enough or quite telephoto enough. This is why Canon puts a doubler on a lot of their b4 zooms. This is usually the problem. Think DvX 100 or HVX 200 or my old canon scoppic 16mm camera and even the Arri BL.

The whole push way from DVX 100 etc and these types of cameras was interchangeable glass.

2/3 inch zooms tend to have a better range than S35.

Hehe.

The big difference in the form factor from the Scarlet vs the EPIC is that the Scarlet Brain's width is equal to the REDmote. Much lighter and easy to whip around on the go (I had gotten used to Ketch's Master Primes on the EPIC).

The images looked great on RC-X on my laptop. HDRx worked just like it does on the EPIC. We didn't view them on a "properly calibrated monitor" for the ones who want to get really technical.

We used the RED Bricks just like we did on the EPIC. (the REDvolts had not been released back in early April). I did get to use the REDvolts the next time I shot with the Scarlet. It was even crazier the form factor since there was no tethering for power required.

The focal length was the 35mm equivalent of A 28-224mm.

As advertised, it is a 3K camera. I believe the exact resolution we were shooting was 3072x1628? I may be wrong on the 1628 though...

All of these things that I have mentioned are subject to change...
