  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What is Enabled?

This is EXACTLY why Red should make a WEB PAGE on their website that lists all features and SPECS and status (enabled, under development, beta testing, changed, etc.) and keep updating. Estimated ETA would be great as well - and Red could keep changing it as needed.

That would reduce confusion and MIS-INFORMATION - seems like there is a bit of that out there -

This was the whole point. Rob is right. I should have just included a bunch of question marks because everything in there was a basic guess. The best part is that it is corrected and other people would find this information useful other than me.

David

PS: Hope things went well with the NHL mark.

RED IS GREAT AT MARKETING... but PR and tech updates, RED needs to hire a PRO now - seriously... some of us have recommended this for months... what works, what doesn't, what is being fixed, and what features are coming... now that the product is out, its time to hire the support crew, delay production, do the fixes, and updates, and slowly create what one is planning.

The current fixes - all cameras and lenses need to be culminated (not supported officially) Officially, you do not need it... reality - this search forum hidden in threads - yes you do - RED is working on it with great customer service but not very public (you have to read lots and deep in this forum for pc reasons).

The more honest and public (problem posted / solution working on / solution posted = the faster we reservation holders will be happy... right now... I trust the intregrity of RED and Apple but their public acts or non lack of communication (red without posting the problem / solution forum that we are suggesting) will make me to deffer my order.

There are other RED owner forums without the pc police - go search - to see the normal growing pains... like apple or avid... lets just make it open and honest here... please... i hate having to read other honest forums without the RED fan boys and I am one of them... but now reality is here... lets fix the problems asap... without fan fair. Fan Fair is fine when their are idiots and SOBS who said RED could not be done... now that we are real... lets make it happen.

Got to agree with you there.
The addition of a girl friday to provide a little more detail online.......maybe exploded view of complete cage/mount assemblies with more details of part for ordering & yeah....expected order when features will be enabled would be important. I'm sure Red office staff could come up with their own FAQ's they'll like to put up.

Also be great to have a Reduser supplier forum where we share accessory supplier information, talk about group bulk buys, buying agents for local purchase/international export etc....

Cheers,

We've been doing this. However, keep in mind that we haven't stopped development yet. We are still very much in development and we've explained this to the first 50 camera owners. Things will be a bit bumpy while we get everything sorted.

Rest assured, we are hard at work on all of this (and a ton more). In the meantime we're doing our best to keep everyone up to date on this forum.

That's pretty funny..... because we did hire a support team, we did delay production (just ask camera owners 51 - 100), we have fixed and are fixing things, we've send out at least 3 camera firmware and software updates since the first release, we've started a REDCINE beta projec and we are indeed "slowly" creating what we were planning.... Am I missing anything?

I don't think we've pulled anything here if it's discussed with fighting and calling names, including problems. Heck, Jim started a problems thread himself! How more open do you want us to be?

Jim has given his personal guarantee that problems will be solved asap. It's also normal to talk with the company when problems arise to give them a chance to fix it, before plastering it all over the forums.

Jim has clearly stated on delivery of the first 50 cameras that they were with us as we continue down this path. If you want all features and no bugs then you have the option to delay delivery of your camera until the original promised features are done.

However, the first 50 clearly have chosen to jump in and get started, even if there might be some issues here and there. We're all hard at work at fixing issues, giving you new features and keeping you up to date.

Beyond that I'm not sure what we can do.... (and no, it's not as easy as throwing up a web page, unfortunately)

A clear list of the feature enabled schedule would be fantastic plus dates for when accessories will be available too as the RED is so modular.

Rob -

I don't think it's RED so much as certain users and occasionally mods taking a little too much liberty and stifling topics some of us found useful.

All of those things you mentioned are helpful, and we appreciate them! But I still would like to have an idea of the ETA of some of these other parts in list form, even if it just says "not for a while" or "not yet" or whatever. Just as much information as is already out there.

Clear dates would be better than "soon" or "not yet" as its hard to run a business around guess work.

Ball park dates are better.

Okay, understood. I'll forward your thoughts. Thanks for the feedback!

Websites are easy, it's Red finding the time to make those updates to the site. Personally, I'd rather them spend time fixing the problems that they would be making a site for instead of updating it every day.

Of course, even if there was a website people would still find something to write about.

Here is my take on this. This is a public forum. Lots of things can be said in a very open, unfiltered way and sometimes it makes for really good conversation and we get information directly from Red as well. It's a good place to get together and hang out and talk everything Red. But I think it might not be a bad idea to have an official web page for Red updates as it relates to firmware, changes in design, accessories, availability, etc.

I think this came up at one point before and people were asking for a page for reservation holders. Those of us with reservations would love this, not sure others would be as fond of the idea, but what it would do is keep us all on the same page as far as expectations go. Some of us have been patiently waiting this out for a while now, and the wait is not a problem. We just want to know where things stand, that's all. Just human nature.

Overall, I think Red is doing an amazing job. If I were to guess, they are probably having regular meetings (maybe daily) where they have to provide status reports. They have a lot on their plate and I am sure they are pushing forward with great determination.

I think Jim's Bug sticky was a good start. But I think a more formal page or two that is easy to check in on and see status reports would be useful. Then again, I don't know what Red's web resources are right now. Is there a dedicated web person? Or is someone splitting duty? If there isn't a dedicated person, perhaps this is tougher for them to do.

I'm not losing sleep over this. It would be more out of convenience. The biggest thing for me is a change in delivery schedule. That's the kind of thing that could make me lose sleep if it slips by a lot. But at this point, I do want a camera that works right, so I'll deal with it.

Anyway, I'm rambling. If Red can make a web page or two that keeps us updated in a very clear, well laid out format, that would be cool.

Steve

I gotta say that the fact that RED and Jim are so open with most things is a great way to run a company. We as consumers must also know that all software and hardware work takes time. The fact thast RED has shipped cameras in the amount of time that they have is great. Heck RED owners even get regular firmware updates ala Apple.
