  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What is color / gamma space and which is the best?

Was hoping someone could do something like Reddit's ELI5 (explain like I'm 5.)

Which one is the best to use or how do you decide on which to use?

What happens if you use an onboard monitor or a monitor with a lut?

Red Epic Dragon if it matters.

You could read this free guide on color management and color spaces for VFX, which also applies to cinematography:

Glenn Kennel's book Color & Mastering for Digital Cinema goes pretty deep into color science:

My take is, just shoot in Raw and monitor in Rec709 on a calibrated monitor, come up with a LUT that shows you a reasonable picture, and do tests beforehand so you know what the limits are in terms of exposure, what can be fixed, and what can't be fixed in post.
