I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a good card reader for RED flash cards, I'm on a pc, the one I have doesn't work with red cards.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks for the replies, i'll go lexar.

I use SANDISK 800 firewire reader without any problems!

What do you mean drop frames? Are you trying to play back REDCODE off the card- why? That's for copying over and maybe a quick preview of a frame not playing.

When I transfer from CF to a external HD and after I playback from HD, there are drops (mean black frames or crazy colors in 1 or 2 frames) in playback and in the CF is perfect, then I have to make a copy again to HD.
Sometimes is perfect, sometimes not. When I use the Sonnet Express Card always ok!
There is a new drive from Sonnet to resolve crash the MAC OS.
I'm sorry my poor english.

NO problem ata ll to me...Lexar since day 1
cheers,

fyi - apparently, the Lexar is NOT compatible with Snow Leopard 0S 10.6.2

Hi Brendan,

The tech support folks at Lexar are chuckle-heads. I've got four of the readers, and one is failing, and after walking through all of the steps to get a RMA, the RMA number never came.

They outsource their support, and it shows.

I tell you this to propose that the information up on Amazon may be spurious.

I'm using them with Snow Leopard and three of them are working fine.

I guess your mileage may vary,

Steve

We use both Sandisk UDMA and Lexar on Snow as well. They have both shown a couple of hiccups (newer cards sometimes require a second insert try to come up) but nothing serious. We have run RED 16gb, Extreme 90MB/s and old slow stuff too.

3 Lexar Pro UDMA FW800 readers here and all working with Snow Leopard just fine. Never one glitch or problem with these readers.

We use the Lexar UDMA Firewire reader. Occasionally I get copy errors (per R3D manager) but don't know if those are attributable to the reader or just what. The reader is fast and seems to work well. The copy errors usually disappear the second time through. It'd be interesting to know if the errors are due to the card reader, but I'm not sure how I'd tell.

I like the idea of the ExpressCard reader from Sonnet, but my ExpressCard slot is already taken up by an eSATA adapter (attaches the backup drives).

What about USB readers? Any positive experiences? I know they'd be slow, but for computers without Firewire or ExpressCard slots they might be useful. I'm thinking of an emergency backup situation.

I use the Hoodman RAW Firewire UDMA CF Reader... I own 2 of them (one for a backup) and I've never had a single problem.. Great product.. I'm in the same boat with the expresscard slot being taken up by the eSata adapter. I was thinking of removing my DVD drive and somehow extending that internal SATA cable to an external SATA cable to use for a card reader... I'll be sure to post the results of my Franken-laptop once I get around to actually doing it... I might pick up a USB CF reader as a backup to my backup now that you've mentioned it..
