What first two Red Pro Prime lenses should I start with?

I've been debating whether to get a RPZ 17-50mm or start off with two RPPs for some time now. This is going on a Scarlet, and will mainly be for short films for now. I'm eventually going to grow my collection of lenses as the money comes, but I need to focus on accessorizing my new scarlet first. So if given the option, would you get a 17-50mm or choose two primes? If you choose two primes, what are your first and second choices to start off with? Thanks!

I only have one prime, got a 35mm and love it ... is nice given the scarlet's "crop". Also the lens is spoiling me ... like bad ... after I put that on I don't feel like putting on any of my CP.2's ... man this RED stuff is a drug.

I would go for 2 primes. Primes makes one less lazy :-D

There is something cooking the the RPP department though.
No 50mm anymore, no set available.

Also consider Cooke Panchros.
Covers 5K throughout the range, by design, amazing look and feel. Gentle in sharpness.
T2.8 though, but at least the focus puller will not go mad, focusing on 1.4 in 5K :-D

You will be able to cover more ground off the bat with the 17-50mm, and it will give you a better idea where you need to spend your money on upcoming lens purchases.

a popular option has been 17-50 zoom + 85mm RPP - that gives you good coverage and will allow you to make your own comparisons and use your camera to decide on your needs/applications....

short films are typically non revenue generating (not always...but mostly) - getting good coverage will be more important than maximum image quality...don't mean this to sound demeaning or anything. but you'll be able to get great images with this lens combo and better coverage than 2 RPPs (and a little extra lowlight capability with the 85mm, when you need it.)

We decided to go with primes for the Epic. I choose the 35mm and the 85mm. Not too wide, not too long and useable in most situations i encounter.I figured if I needed A particular lens for a specific shot, like a 17mm or a 300mm, then ill just rent it for the day.

Joseph, those are the same 2 I would have chosen! I've shot so many projects where I live on the 35, and switch to 85 for closeups. let us know how you like the weight balance with the 35.

I'm in the same position right now, but I think I'm gonna go with rpz17-50 + rpp85.
