  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What does this mean?

yeah sure.. :)

No. you should proceed full steam with whatever plans you have with whatever resources you can dig up. You are always responsible for your own destiny and for going around any road blocks that come up. Jim is being honest, possibly at his cost, but every other company in the world would just string us out in endless delays. Jim is letting us know what's happening so we can make plans, So make them. Make your movie. Scarlet is not the end all be all. While you are waiting, other people are shooting on 5DmkIIs, DVX100s, 16mm bolex or renting or borrowing REDs. It can be done. In the end you and only you are going to make that movie happen. I understand your disappointment, but there's not a successful filmmaker on the planet who hasn't learned to work around or through obstacles. Scarlet is not your ticket to the big time.

YOU are your ticket to the big time.

good luck yo.

You people are amusing. I never said that not buying a scarlet was going to postpone my movie making plans -- nothing at all you said is anything new to me either!

All I was saying is that for someone to say it's fine cause they already have a R1 is pretty punkish, because some of us don't and we can't afford one either. And we'd love to have a scarlet. So to tell us just to be happy and wait isn't very fair.

I'll be happily patient and go forward using other camera's, renting the R1, and so on, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about the delay. But I can be patient about it - I have no option but to be. But I've worked through lots of obstacles already, I've worked through lots of problems, I've worked with dropped actors at the last second and worked with equipment failing and worked with people not memorizing their lines when we're on a limited schedule...Don't be so condescending. :)

Be nice. It's better that way.

Adios!

And life goes on. There won't be a Scarlet for a mighty long time. You can bet on that.

my apologies. disappointment is a natural response and I obviously misunderstood your experience level.

worths all your attention.

Real world reaction? Are you serious?

Only worth your attention if you think juvenile drivel is worth reading. Apparently Red should be steaming ahead at full speed to capture a dead market.

I'd rather listen to the guy who puts his money where his mouth is.

maybe my english is short for detecting the "juvenile drivels".. :) those seem grown up comments no? :innocent:
not disagree about to listen the "guy who puts his money where his mouth is".. how could i?.. :)
unfortunately any JJ's thread is infested of "fanbois" (this new designation is not mine :))
how can the man listen whoever he should pay attention to?

at least there.. anyone can read smart echoes.. not just lousy replays.. the yes-men are the first to surround the power before the decay.. first lesson of any history class..

scarlet must be a winner

Jim could pull the plug on this at any moment if he so chooses, he owns the company and would be well within his right if he so chose. And if he did, what would we have? A camera that did what it claimed to do. Oh yeah, the lenses Red makes are wonderful also, at a fraction of the price of other cine glass.

Sometimes the critics of the fanboy mentality are merely envious and feel the need to tear down to bring others down to their own level. I for one, am very appreciative of what Jim has done. I've benefitted from his inspiration and desire to produce something better.

It's predictable that there were going to be critics. Anytime there is a change of plans, some feel the need to tear down so they can say "I told you so" on the chance that something goes awry. Strong companies were not built by such individuals.

Just glanced at the HV20 forum thread... A few people raving over something they can only speculate about. Whatever.

Scarlet, Epic, etc.. will get here when the time is right and all the proper celestial elements align. I want to see the friggin' prime set a lot more than I want to see Scarlet or Epic. OK, I'd like a fixed-lens Scarlet yesterday, but who wouldn't. I'm a patient person, I can wait... Plenty of other things to keep me busy while we wait another month or two on top of a previously unknown deadline.

I don't see any pertinence to the HV20/30/40 forum.

I will refrain from saying any more.

Well,

I think it is good to take an external view and I have to agree with some posters in the HV20 forum, especially when it comes about 'hot fuzz around pure speculation on unpublished specs', 'an 8 bit screen grab of a dog does no represent 4k footage' and 'fanboyesqueness' in general.

It is quite amazing what buzz a 5 line statement of Mr. Jannard can generate, mostly withing 5 minutes of posting (people must have hotwired this thread to their cell phone to be the first to react when his Post descents on us)...

Just shows Red's viral marketing is working very well, whether the post comments are positive or not.

Fasten your seat belts ladies and gentlemen.

The market just tanked again today and Ritz Camera, parent of Wolf Camera has filed for Chapter 11.

Good shooting and best regards,

Over 1000 stores in 45 states.

Court papers show the company’s 30 largest unsecured creditors without collateral backing their claims are owed about $65.6 million. The three biggest creditors listed are: Nikon Inc., owed $26.6 million; Canon USA Inc., owed $13.7 million; and Fuji Photo Film USA Inc., owed $8.4 million.

The bells toll...

no value added here...

watching the S&P crashing through its 1997 levels while spending the day working on an edit. it's making me feel a little vertiginous.

and, most notably, not a single price spike today. is the plunge protection team out of bullets?

I was at a Ritz over the holidays, and I wondered how they were staying in business. The store I was at had mostly just low-end point & shoots, and some digital picture frames. What a disaster. The store didn't know what it wanted to be. Cheap, or lots of selection, or specialized items. Tough times for anyone that isn't focused on the prize. Almost everything they carried could have been purchased at a full-service drugs store. Exaggerating a bit, but not much.

Here in Canada, Henry's camera has been expanding and is putting big pressure on Blacks. At first I didn't think they had a chance, but when I visited a new store, I knew that Henry's was playing for keeps. Massive selection, massive store, great prices, something for every price-point. They even have a used selection. How many years has it been since a great camera shop had a respectable used section. Thought I'd never see that again.

Seems like that's the only way to go these days. Go big or carry a lunch pail.

Hi Jim,

I think that camera sales are down 40-50% because you anouced Scarlet and epic, everyone is waiting! Not to mention you annouced a low end HD/3k version for under 4000K with a fixed lens!!! They is no reason for anyone to buy a camera till scarlet is released.

I'm in for two scarlets. The low end kit and S35. Let us put our money down and you'll have a clear idea of how many of us are itching.

I think you may be right on all the epic upgrade looking at this board. For us scarlet lovers, we have been saving since the anoucments.

Still if you slow down, I'll wait as long as it takes, it will still be years ahead of your compeditors.

Cheers,

Michael
