What does not Red MX do that the Epic Lite/S will not do?

Will our good old Red MX be only 100% inferior to the new Epic Lite (which Jim said will be "closer to $12K"? Or will Red MX still have certain advantages, of any kind? Things that it can do that Epic Light can't?

In other words, is the value of our Red MX about to drop to $5000? Less?

Please someone tell me "No, it's not."

i'll take a red mx for 5000... :)

that being said, the value of the One is not in it's resale value, it will still be very usable in the future alongside Epics and Scarlets... I wouldn't sell it, but I will buy it if you want to!

Without HDRx™, RED ONE MX values will certainly depreciate relative to the features of the EPIC Lite...lighter weight, modularity - all those things will contribute to the depreciation of RED ONE.

But what the hell, if it was good enough for Pirates of the Caribbean and a host of other Hollywood films, I guess it will still have a bit of kick to it.

The real value will be measured by what you can make with it, not what you can sell it for.

But realistically, I'm sure you can expect prices to drop. That's why I put my 2nd RED ONE on the market a ways back. I gave a little thought to putting my first one on the market, as well, based on the value relative to price depreciation, once EPIC is released, but a) I still need a good camera and it is making money, while I wait b) nostalgia - I like my RED ONE and 3) it's holding my place in line for EPIC.

I will make considerably more money with it in the next three months, than it will depreciate in the same time. That's a good value. I hold this camera in high esteem - it has held its value longer than any other camera I have owned.

Agree with you on all. I'm still glad I can look over and see our Red One waiting for me. I was just wondering if the Epic Lite will have any performance minuses vs. the Red. Resolution?

As it seems - but we still have to know the full feature set of the Epic-S will have - the Epic will be better in almost every way.
The only thing I can think of is that with the RED One you have one camera that has all the necessary ports.
With the Epic-S, chances are big you need a module for sound, a module for this, a module for that...
Maybe that can be seen as a plus for the Red One.

Technology moves forward. Yes, I'm sure an Epic-S will lower the resale value of a Red One, but as people said: The Red One is still a very good camera, used on very big blockbusters at this point.

Red1 still have a 17500 value for stage 3...

When that's done, it will drop a lot.

Does that make it an inferiour camera that cannot make you as much money as it has?

Not neccesarily...

a lot of EPIC and (EPIC LIGHT) SCARLET talks these days ....
JUST Hope no one forget the RED ONE MX, as I'm trully in love with this camera ... :/
I know it's important having people buying a product that took so many time to create ... that's the way it is...
but just don't forget us ... please :) ...

i can't wait to buy a red one mx in the future... once the epics and scarlets have shipped out, i'd love to have one around :)

I just thought of something: Red Drives 320 or 640 Gigs can be important when shooting long interviews, shows, remote location with long bouts between access to offload, etc. Would cost a bit to get that much SSD space.

with an adapter cable u can use red drives on a Epic

I suspect they will slowly fade into the distance as all the accessories and modules will work from Scarlet up on to Epic.. Depreciation is imminent for RedMX. Still won't change the fact that it's a fantastic camera!

that's if these new cameras are right around the corner...

I'm sure things will develop differently than what anyone can tell. No one can hang their hat on any future delivery dates or prices. A few months with a R1 MX should make up the difference between $ lost in resale value over the next however long and working relationships will be able to continue in the meantime.

Sure, people will want to offload their cameras in the near future but that just means more Red centric work in the market in many areas = more demand.

It will almost certainly drop to under $10k, but the main thing a Red One has over all Epics and Scarlets is that it exists now!

I plan to generate another $60-$100k of business with mine before my Epic arrives, so even if it's worth $0 at the end of it, the Red One will remain the best investment I ever made! :cheers2:

Well said.

At any price, the RED-MX is only second to the Epic. The value will definitely not drop below 15K for a long while. Regular Red with no MX upgrade will surely drop to low prices. The Red-mx is to acquisition what an HD-cam SR deck is to delivery.
