  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What do you think about the supply rate ?

It's funny how people are saying 6 months, one year, maybe more...
Did Jarred tell you that ? Jim pehaps ? Your bomb squad rep ?
Weird, nobody told me nothing, except for "we are gonna be out of backorder in february".

Hense why a company really should give estimates on the time of delivery. Otherwise, people start predicting when they think the camera will arrive. Silence creates rumours. People get annoyed with the company for stuff they made up in their own mind. It is always better to be proactive with honesty. It is always good public relation to cut off rumors before they start with fact.

On the other hand, RED might actually NOT know, They are still building the infastructure. We don't know what is going on behind the curtian.

Thanks Kevin. Things change on a daily basis so threads like that get out of date really quick. And as every week goes by, new orders come in so looking at backorder status isn't always black and white. When I post these little updates, it is from where we are at the time I post them. In a couple months.. we plan on getting out of the hole on pretty much everything. So a thread like that old one would be more accurate.. except hopefully it will no longer be needed.
Don't put words in my mouth... I didn't say everyone gets Scarlets by Christmas. Anyone that put their order in the first hour has a pretty good chance.
Eric, don't forget that we started shipping Ti PL mount versions on Nov 17 and Al Canon did not start until Dec 1. And, frankly, we got a boatload of Al Canon orders. We had a very nice ramp in production this month - and next month is even bigger.

No problem Eric.. If you are not happy with what we are doing, we are glad to refund your order. Not sure what you are going on about us announcing shipping on December 1st.. we have been shipping since december 1st... and continue to ship.

We are not going to just guess at dates to make you guys feel better.. right now things change every hour in terms of Scarlet production.. remember that production line is only been shipping for a couple weeks so changes are being made, the line will stop the line will start. Bit of a roller coaster ride.
I thought about making something somewhere permanent.. but we are hoping this isn't going to be a permanent situation.. just a couple more months and backorders will be the exception rather than the norm.

A few choice quotes for you to ponder. :-)

Yes Erik, and like I said, nothing about six months and so.
Couple of months is all there is.

Yes, and which is more likely he meant? 4-6 months or 12+? Last I checked, no-one says "a couple of months" and means "another year". Extrapolating from this data shouldn't be that hard really. If they can achieve 500-600 cameras per month, they should catch up with supply by summer. Nothing too unrealistic about that...

I'm sorry guys but really you can't read what Mr. Jarred or Jannard write most time???
My english is very bad maybe i not undestand correctly: they write anything only "something somewhere sometime.....", nothing concrete, I recognize that make production plans is difficult but these must be made before a product launch not later or btw.
The fact that I read is that having never had a Scarlet, forced by the announcement of Canon have created on the fly an Epic castrated.

Have fun with your 8-bit, 4:2:2, 50mbps Canon... when it ships.

You gotta love choices, no?

haha, yes Terry. I cannot wait to film beautiful blue skies clean, vibrant and super smooth. No more gradient breakup or crazy banding if I try to bring out the colors. For that, I will wait (but not too long :) ).

I'm buying both a Scarlet and a C300. Returning/selling whichever one doesn't meet my expectations (or maybe just keeping both). Specs alone don't make a great camera.

Sounds like a great, although somewhat expensive, strategy!!

I expect the scarlet to have similar downtimes and issues to what the epic has. Might as well make money on two cameras.

Probably a good strategy since all manufacturers don't tell you everything about product performance, application and ownership realities. It will be easier to return the Canon since their distribution is wide and far so return policies can vary by outlet.

does anyone know anything about shipped scarlet-x ti canon packages ? sadly i personally have not heard something - and i have ordered such a package because i thought there will not be so much orders and i can get it faster... now ii think this was a bad decision and i'll get it much later then other buyers get their canon al and pl mount packages... but on the other hand it's a very logic thing. when i order a standard audi a6 i get it much faster as if i order an audi a6rs although i pay a much, much higher price for the rs... :-)
for me this is ot a big problem, the timeframe for having a complete setup ends in the end of summer 2012. and without redmote, bomb evf and the other components i've ordered the camera is needless... no one of my customers is interested in renting a uncomplete package...

I haven't seen any threads on Ti canon shipping. The problem you have is the supply of those mounts is already severely back ordered by everyone buying it for the Epic, whereas the Al Canon is not yet offered outside the Scarlet package.
