  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What do you guys think of Molefay type lights?

They are, of course, tungsten and hot, but with a dichroic filter can be turned to 5000K. I'm curious if they have any advantages over HMIs or even tungsten Fresnels. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Stephen

I use them all the time. If you diffuse them, you get a lot of "bang for the buck". I shot a feature a couple of years ago using no hmi's , only maxibrutes and it worked out really well, both for budget and due to the fact that it was below freezing for most of the movie. Apparently HMI ballasts don't like freezing.
In short, they are cheap and put out a lot of light but need to be bounced or diffused.
