  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What do I need to handle the scarlet in post

The mobile Rocket solutions out there that connect to a laptop via ExpressCard34 to a PCI-E expander box which hosts the card, are a possibility. Once again there is a severe bandwidth bottleneck as this is essentially limited to PCI-E 1X. So far, it seems to be a bit buggy and not 100% reliable, but I have not personally run a mobile Rocket through any serious testing. And given the cost of the mobile enclosure and restrictions and that it still needs external power, etc..

Would this bottleneck prevent realtime transcodes to ProRes/MXF, or would it mainly slow down the bigger stuff like DPX?

I'm using a 3ware 3690 in RAID 6. It actually runs faster in RAID 6 than in RAID 5 - about 300 MB/s with 8 drives. I started with 320 GB drives as XP had the 2 TB limit. I haven't had a hiccup in 2 months. I had an LSI card before and it constantly dropped drives from the array. RAID 6 allows 2 drive failures. I suppose it would run faster with raptor drives, but soon I'll be looking for bigger drives as now I'm running 64 bit. PC pitstop offers some fairly inexpensive drive enclosures, but don't bump or touch em.
