  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What configuration should I run, RED and RESOLVE with 10 bit monitoring.

Well, I'm out of room!

Currently on alexa jobs I'm runniing my mac pro with my GUI card, quadro 4000 GPU card, mini h680 SAS card, and SDI card for monitoring to my OLED.

Now, I'm doing a RED EPIC job starting tomorrow for the next few days and would like to stay in resolve just to keep it going opposed to redcine x.

Would I be best to:

dump my GUI card (stock mac pro card), put my Q4000 in slot 1, my red rocket in slot 2, sas card, and then hd SDI card?

I noticed the other day I was rendering scarlet 4kHD footage in my mac pro (quadro 4000 and red rocket) at 30-32fps, will not having the Quadro 4000 in there along with the rocket slow down my renders?

Or with RED footage is the rocket really doing all the work and I can get away with running the Quadro 4000 as my GUI?

As of Resolve 9 we've been running without a GUI GPU. Rolling on just the Q4000 with good results. Although the RR will do the heavy R3D lifting, loosing the Q4000 will hurt you if doing any serious grading in Resolve for your dailies. I'd go Q4000 + SAS (I'm guessing this is your disk access) + SDI + RR. Only thing missing is getting media off the mags - unless you have some kind of SAS bridge device.

Thanks Michael,

I ended up running just as you said.

Quadro 4000 as gui/gpu, red rocket, h680 sas card, and hd sdi card and got great results.

Shooting 4K and rendering out 1920/1080 prores 422 hq files at 30-32fps with a couple of nodes.

Couldn't be happier.
