I'll start this thread by saying hi to all as its my first post, (although i.ve been reading post's here for ages) hope everyones good.

Now please don't jump me because i'm well aware that all the specs are subject to change etc etc, this is simply a hypothetical question. What do you guys think the scarlet 2/3 fixed image will look like in comparison to other models currently on the market, i.e what (image wise) do you think it will compare to ? I know where i think it will sit, just wanted to see what you guys thought.

not sure if Jim reads outside the recon but loving your work, i,ve been using the red for a while now and i can't wait to see what you do with the scarlet, it'll be worth the wait.

Hey Jay, welcome to the RED forums, you are also welcome to join Scarletuser.com.

I posted a thread over there quoting a David Mullen's post from over here, he was showing some examples of a movie he shot on the Sony F900 with lens stopped between 2.0 and 2.8 (aperture similar to the Scarlet 2/3" Fixed).

Here's the thread: http://www.scarletuser.com/showthread.php?t=3813

Jim said comparisons will be made to the Sony F23. Should be easily as good/better than 16mm film also.

cool i wasn't aware jim had made that comparison, i've seen some really nice images come out of the 23. I can't wait to see what the scarlet is like, i've always (as im sure lots have) had great faith in red and there products.

hey pietro, cheers for the welcome, nice to meet you. I do read over at Scarletuser.com but have yet to join, i will do so promptly. Thx for the link i will take a look now.

They're not releasing a footage comparison or anything - he was saying more along the lines that people will compare it to the F23. A ~$300 camera that can rival a camera with a $150,000 list price sounds good to me.

Tell me please... Can I shoot movie on fixed Scarlet, I mean "film look" picture?
And What practically I can't do with fixed Scarlet that I can do witn interchangeble Scarlet? (for example if we shoot the same movie) What I can't do with fixed Scarlet?
And What is "film look" difference between picture on fixed and interchangeble Scarlet?

I appreciate that he meant thats what people will be comparing it to rather than there being a real footage comparison (sorry i phrased my previous post badly). Thats good enough for me though :yesnod:

amen to that, sounds good to me to. They did it with the red so i have faith.

the "film look" fight is long over, with the scarlet you are using a Sensor that will be used in camera that are shooting features and IMAX, the only difference with the 2/3rd sensor is it is Smaller, so you won't be able to use very Sharp FF and PL lenses you will have to use C-mount, MiniRedPrimes, and smaller lenses.

IF you have the fixed, the only difference between them is a larger body, and the lens will not be able to be removed, so you are stuck with the focal length they give you... which frankly I don't mind, If you are doing alot of Stalking/spying, 8x lens isn't enough for you, so you would have to go with the interchangeable and et lenses for it

But you aren't spying.....Are you!?

Yes you will be able to shoot beautiful "film" like images off fixed scaret. Remeber Red is a Digital Cinema company, they specialize in making cameras to shoot movies. Getting the "film look" is very subjective and that topic has been discussed thoroughly on these boards and the internet.

I also noticed you are from the Ukraine. Are you making films there? My roomate is from Ukraine and she says things dont' look so good over there right now. PM if you want to talk
