Hi,

I'm looking to go Red in the near future and with the forthcoming public release of the 5K Red Epic, I'm assuming there is going to be a brief increase of executed Red One cameras for sale.

What can I expect to pay for a used Red One and some basic accessories and lenses? I know, it's a broad question expecting a detailed answer, but I'm new to the Red One world and I'm not really sure what question to ask in the first place. I realize the sky is the limit with Red, and I've browsed through the Red store. I get that I could spend a fortune if I wanted to. Basically, I want to save some money while still having enough equipment to start shooting with Red. (Aside from audio and lights and workstation requirements.)

What can I expect to pay to essentially "get into the Red game" with used equipment?

Thanks!

It depends on Seller, and their need for cash, otherwise will depend and will be dictated by availability, and or how many are for sale when you are buying.

Price will be decreasing no doubt, but I have seen that it is mostly based on seller's need to sale, other wise expect the camera to retain a decent value.

BTW,, this belongs to "Off Topic" :)

In Australia, executed bodies have been going for about USD$10k. Lenses are lenses so not part of the executed equation.

This basically represents the additional benefit Red gives you to keep your body. Those who would otherwise have waited for Epic Stage III pre-sold for this amount to allow them to do Epic stage II and get their camera sooner. Win/Win.

Now that Stage II is closed it's hard to know. Those who want Stage III will be returning their cameras.

Well I'm in the market, but the economy has made it hard for me to gather financing.

I'd expect to pay full retail for a RED One body ($17500 for M, and $25000 for MX camera) right now. If the camera has been executed I'd expect to pay about $8000 less for the bodies, but that isn't what I am shopping for.

As part of an ownership transfer RED inspects the camera, if I understood correctly. If RED discovers problems I'd expect to directly reduce the amount I am paying for the body to cover the repairs.

Accessories vary more widely. EVF's command a high fraction of their retail price, as does RED Ram. The rest of the gear is available for typical used gear prices.

If you are buying the rights to a RED One & a stage 2 reservation, that stage 2 is worth a bit. I'd actually expect to pay full price for the R1 and the EPIC reservation and fulfillment. Usually in such a deal any included camera accessories are priced a little high compared to accessories on the open market- especially on the very few early model #'s that have been up for sale.

RED One and Stage 3 I'd expect to pay full retail for the body and the Epic. I expect to negotiate typical market prices for the rest of the used gear.

I expect this to remain the case until BOTH Epic and Scarlet are shipping.

Once Scarlet ships, I expect market prices for RED One camera bodies to plummet to something below a Scarlet S35 brain with a base i/o module at retail.

Just my thinking... Ketch Rossi is the one who has bartered more of these deals than anyone else I know, so I'd lend more weight to his input.
