  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What are you using as a full size moniitoring display - 10-bit?

I searched before posting... if it's been discussed, please give me some search terms or a link.

I'd like to get a secondary display for editing and grading RED footage. Not a professional colorist. On Windows. Thinking 10-bit SDI off of a Quadro makes sense, but I am having a hell of a time finding good info on newer displays - especially 10-bit and 10b-bit HD-SDI displays.

Please let me know what you're using or if you have any other useful info.

Thanks in advance.

The Panasonic plasmas are pretty highly regarded in LA -- I know of many facilities using them to color time HD TV shows, home video features, and commercials. Cinema projects generally go with a commercial-grade projector, which is a whole different animal.

Right now, I think the Panasonic BT300-series monitors are about the best thing out there for under $5000. I think trying to grade on most kinds of computer displays is going to be a big compromise, with few exceptions. The biggest problem is viewing angle; the HP Dreamcolor is not too bad as long as only one person has to look at it at a time, they're at just the right angle, and the monitor is precisely set up.
