Since I've had my Red I've been accumulating a lot of footage. I'm looking for a low-cost easy access solution to data storage that can hold the 10 plus terabytes that I have now as well as footage that i will accumulate in the future. I'm working off of a laptop, so a system with dedicated raid card is also out. I saw the new arctic raid from rocstor as well as the new gspeed from G-tech. Any suggestions?

Do you have eSata port, gigabit ethernet port or ExpressCard/54 ?

if it's just to hold ur footage. look into DROBO. if you need to work off of it, think of ESATA RAID enclosures that have built in raid hardware... sonnet, firmtek, owc, all have enclosures that do that.

Thanks guys. I have an esata connection through the express 34 slot. I was looking for an enclosure that took drives as-is. Other systems need you to bolt them to trays first. I find that annoying when you have a few drives. I guess I'm just lazy. I'm looking to work off of the drives as well, but mostly for color correction. I don't edit.

Wiebetech do enclosures which have built in RAID controllers and take bare drives "as is".

I have a couple firmtek's that I have added velcro dots to the tray and drives so that I dont need to use screws when swapping them out.

for 1-drive storage:

i'm using 2TB 3.5" Hitachi Drives (sold now for $129 on ebay; 4TB drives are around the corner too, which will make 2TB only cheaper)
some cheap HDD shock absorbing cases (also on ebay for $3-5)

and Manhattan HDD dock for eSata quick docking ($25-40)
or if you don't have e-sata, there's a FW800 HDD docks as well for around $60-90;
- NewerTech Voyager Q or this:

I do not work for or benefit in any way from NewEgg... Just saw this deal/email this morning and emailed some friends. But here is the best deal yet on those Hitatchi drives:

NewEgg have a $20 off sale and a $20 mail in rebate with up to 5 drives. So after rebate you are looking @ $100 each. These are currectly the best rated 2Tb drives without going to insanely priced "Enterprise" class drives. I have 4 of them running, 2 on Tim's MacPro and another 2 in stand alone drives as storage for my Red and Canon.

This is the sale/coupon you will need for NewEgg on checkout:

EMCYTZR25

This is the link to the page on NE:

There is a link to the rebate page under the price mid/upper-page.

Again, you can buy 5 of them for the sale and with rebate.

Michael, Addonics also makes very low-cost bare-drive setups. I use all the time. Their website and descriptions leave something to be desired, but their gear works and is very low cost. The awkward name Mobile Rack snap-in series is waht they call their cradle free drive slots. www.addonics.com. They're close to you as well.
